LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron dropped her second box office bomb in two months on Sunday as her superhero saga "Aeon Flux" earned just $13.1 million during its first weekend, opening at No. 2.
" Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," meanwhile, ruled for a third round, with sales of $20.5 million, but is likely to lose the crown next weekend to "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe," which opens Friday.
"Aeon Flux," the only wide new release during a traditionally quiet post-Thanksgiving weekend, opened at the higher end of diminished industry expectations, which ranged between $10 million and $13 million. The film cost $60 million to make, said its distributor, Paramount Pictures.
Theron plays the title character (pronounced E-ON), a futuristic secret agent who must assassinate a corrupt government leader. It is based on a series of animated shorts that originally ran on MTV. Fellow Oscar-winner Frances McDormand ("Fargo") also stars. Karyn Kusama ("Girlfight") directs.

Anyone see it?
Baboon 12-05-2005, 02:47 PM Anyone see it?
apparently not. :p
TheNatural 12-07-2005, 02:29 PM i havent seen it yet, but this is such a classic case of folks jumpin on the "hating" bandwagon. ridiculous. it's probably good, but so many people are so easily swayed (including critics).
i want to see it.
SecretSamadhi 12-07-2005, 02:31 PM I want to see it too.
Two of my favorite actresses in TWO movies together in one year.
Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand are the best we have as far as female acting talent right now.
TheAmber 12-07-2005, 03:35 PM I'll give it a chance, if nothing else Charlize is a cutie.
I plan on seeing it when I have more time :(
mike75 12-07-2005, 08:48 PM I don't even rememeber the cartoon except for like 2 shows on MTV on at like 3 in the morning one night. She is really attractive but there has to be more than that to get people to go to the movies. I don't know the story which is one reason I will wait until it hits tv if it ever does.
Jay GW 12-07-2005, 09:30 PM Oh my god, this movie has just about the worst reviews of any movie this year:
New York Post
"Aeon Flux is by far the year's worst movie, a most dubious achievement."
Hollywood Reporter:
Simultaneously silly, ostentatious and terribly boring.
New York Daily News:
"In the dystopian future, apparently, women will be bendable Barbies in leather scanties, and everyone will speak like brain-dead robots."
Variety
"Spectacularly silly."
Philadelphia Inquirer
"We know it's the future because everyone has the most ridiculous hairdos."
Themovieboy.com
"The waste of talent and money thrown into this cheesy, haphazard production should be a criminal offense the world over."

I mean this movie basically has no good reviews, which is actually kind of rare.
SwiftSloth 12-08-2005, 01:01 AM It'll still make plenty of profit, of course. As long as it cleared the 10 million for opening it was pretty much fine.... Failures are when you make $150 million films and then they open for 12 million. Then your hurting.
kellet 12-08-2005, 05:47 AM I think her hair looks really cool. I saw in some magazine that they thought her hair looked awful. Retards.
she was an awful choice, IMO. Aeon Flux was uber skinny... Theron isn't
I really dont' see the appeal in her. People seem to swoon over her just because she won a ton of awards
MichaelB21 12-08-2005, 08:49 AM I saw it tonight. It was an OK movie. I'm not all that hard to please when it comes to movies, though. It was a bit corny but I kind of expected it. I wouldn't recommend buying it on DVD or anything but renting it when it comes out would be acceptable.
Ponycar_302 12-08-2005, 03:02 PM It can't be as bad as Catwoman. Even Elektra wasn't that bad. :p
Shadoglare 12-08-2005, 07:08 PM Eh, it's rental material at best...
CGord 12-10-2005, 10:05 PM If it's a cartoon, if it's a comic book, when they make it a movie, it's gonna suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Monster 12-10-2005, 10:16 PM Add video games to that too.
*cough*DOOM*cough*
There's no way in this physical universe that Ĉon Flux could be worse than DOOM.
Jay GW 12-12-2005, 02:42 PM People seem to swoon over her just because she won a ton of awards
Then you need to see the movie Monster - it's about the first female serial killer Arlene Wournos. Just amazing and very very sad. She definately got the award because she deserved it.
SecretSamadhi 12-13-2005, 06:45 PM she was an awful choice, IMO. Aeon Flux was uber skinny... Theron isn't

Yeah dude, she's a real porker.
I thought she was going to be just another pretty face, but she's not. Even in the godawful Devil's Advocate, she was amazing. She's very believable in everything she does.
