A friend of our family just told me that her sister said not to feed turkey to your dogs! That it's reeeeeaaaaaaaally bad for them!!!!! :( She works with a lot of animals, sorta a vet. I'm not sure exactly what she does but I know she knows her stuff and I trust her.
Thoughts? Why is this? I feel bad. I gave my dog TONS of turkey on thanksgiving. :(

I have no idea why this would be bad - for a while Katie was on a special diet made of turkey and barley instead of the typical lamb and rice, I think you just need to be careful not to give them bones or too much skin (skin can upset their tummachs because it can be greasy)
I don't know. She said it was toxic and I'm trying to find info on it. So far all I ca n find is that dogs cannot eat turkey skin because they can't digest it and it could kill them. I need to talk to this lady, not just hear it from her sister. I'm concerned because I know that she knows her stuff. She went to school forever and LOVES animals. But then I can't really think of a reason the MEAT would be bad. Yeah, bones can kill a dog because they splinter, and the skin aparently is toxic.. So I don't know. I hope that's all she meant when she told tara that it's toxic to them.
i'm sorta frantic here. :| I not only feed my dog turkey all the time but also my other pets. :hmm:

I wouldn't worry about it - several types of dog food are made out of turkey meat. I give tiny ground turkey all the time. One thing that I can think of that is definitely toxic to dogs is grapes, they are very very bad and just a few grapes can put a dog into kidney failure for some weird reason. I knew a dog that had only about 8 grapes and she had to be hospitalized for several days, even though her mom was a vet tech and knew how to take care of her at home, it was that serious. What really pisses me off is when you tell this to some people and they scoff - for example I was at my old boss's house a few years ago for a christmas party, and I saw her feed a dog a grape so I told her about it, she laughed at me and as if to prove me wrong proceeded to give the dog a bunch more grapes. It was a really big dog so maybe that's why it didn't get sick.

Here are some links to turkey-containing dog foods, I'm sure if it was toxic these companies would have been sued out of business by now -

I know what you mean I hate that too!
I don't know if it's the grapes themselves or the mold that grows on them sometimes. I stopped feeding Shadow grapes and raisins a LONG time ago. It's not worth it. Here's an excellent article.
