I just got a mac, myself. A 15" Powerbook G4. Love it. I got it as a loaner from work, though, and they didn't install the devellopers tools, which you need to get cool Linux stuff to run. Once I get around to installing that, I'll try to update as I get new cool stuff working.
what are these "developer tools" and what can I do with them?
I'm a mac n00b... you have to give details and links :D

On the install CD, look for xcode tools, and install that. It'll take up a gig and a half of your hard disk, but then you can look for cool stuff like Darwin Ports (http://darwinports.com/). Also, make sure you install X Windows from the "Optional Installs" so you can run Linux stuff later. I still haven't looked into exactly how to do that, but I know you can.

Not "Windows", but "X Windows". It's the Unix GUI, and you can install it from the Mac OS X disk. (It might be called "X Darwin" instead of "X Windows").
Edit: In other words, darwinports is just for Mac OS X.
