View Full Version : Look what Notchie do :) (WARNING; pic of dead deer) 92Notch 11-30-2005, 07:00 AM My first ever antlered deer, after 19 years of hunting, got this handsome fellow Sat 11/26 about 9AM. 9pts on the antlers, weighed in at 166lbs.... most meat I've ever gotten from a deer, took all day Sunday to butcher w/ a buddy's help (we're both real slow and meticulous; picky about our meat :) ) .... anyways, thought I'd share. I need to get a dehydrator and "stuff" ... never made jerkey before .... my dad has, but I have not. what does it cost to have a butcher do his thing? I think about $60 + $ 10 if you want it deboned.... in my case it cost about 8 hours, as I butchered it w/ a budy's help. Do you keep the skin (hide?) and antlers? No, not usually but, this one I caped out back to the sholders, he's at the taxidermist now... I getting the head mounted... being my first buck and all. oh and..nice rack! Thanks! ... (I do not cut it into steaks, you can slice a roast up into steaks but not vice-versa.... so I always process it as roasts).
