I wasn't a huge fan of AOE2 but I have to say... I am very impressed with AOE3, it's a really good solid game.

I recommend it.
:nice: :nice:

Just take note (In case it matters to you) that this is not a medieval strategy game like the second one. It is based on the colonization period of the Americas.

Every civilization has a different play style, which makes each civ unique to play. Each civ has strong points, and can be custom tailored to suit your play style.

It utilizes a "Card System" in which you gain cards everytime you level up your home city. (Typically in one well played game your Home City will gain a level or two) These cards are what you get from Home City shipments... Guns, Goods, or Techs.

Using this you can make a lightening fast Rushing Russian, Turtle down with a High Defense French, or advance through the ages quicker with an economically powerful dutch civ.

So it's not just a matter of... ok I'm playing against The Brits, I should act this way. It's a matter of what cards he's got... he could be getting military units for a quick attack, or he could be getting +25% to farm production for a stronger economy.

Here here, I need upgrades.

Personally I was a huge AOE Rise of Rome, and AOE 2 fan. Id love to play 3 but my system would barely be able to push it.

Im a big Civ 3 fan these days.

I do play AoE III. I think it is a nice game, card system idea is very good it gives you more choices of how to play your game.
But sadly i got bored pretty soon.I could AoE II and Rise of Rome forever.

Does it have the same editors that let you set up and try your own scenarios?

I was a HUGE fan or AOE II, and Im now a HUGE fan of AOE III. My only complaint is the zoom level... You can zoom out. (atleast not that Ive found). The game feels to up close for me. Id like to zoom out a notch or two.

Have y'all played Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds; it uses the AoE2's engine. If you haven't, you can get both games for 10 dollars. The first one has just the Rebels and the Galactic Empire; the expansion pack has the Republic, the Confederacy, the Wookies, the Trade Confederation, the Gungans and the Naboo.

Janus, I've got the first part, but not the expansion.

It was a fun game, yeah.

I always found the graphics in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds to be lacking. *shrug*

AoE III is okay, but it's missing something that I can't quite put my finger on that AoE II had which made it so addictive. I spent untold hours playing AoE II without ever getting bored - I grew bored with the third installment disappointingly fast. Maybe it's because there isn't enough variety in the maps, the more restrictive building limits or that I can't stand the home city feature.

Of course, it could be that my gaming tastes have changed.
