View Full Version : Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire (possible spoilers)
illianna1782 11-18-2005, 06:01 AM I don't know if anyone else here is as fantatic as I am when it comes to Harry Potter. That being said I loved the movie it was true to some of the book but was basically true to its sprit and was the shortest 2.75 hours I've spent in a movie theater.
My favorite part has to be the graveyard scene....it was soo awesome!!!
tweedy 11-18-2005, 01:21 PM I totally agree. I was lucky enough to see an advance screening of it last weekend, and I was blown away. You're completely right about the graveyard scene, Ralph Fiennes is amazing as Voldemort, what a perfect casting choice! It's by far my favorite of the HP movies so far.
beatlebabe 11-18-2005, 01:48 PM We're supposed to be taking my kids to see it on Wednesday.
I'm hesitant about taking my daughter (she's 8) and I've heard it may be pretty violent for younger kids.
Rayney 11-18-2005, 08:26 PM AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH H!
Its not released here until Dec 1.:mad::mad:
No_Brakes 11-18-2005, 08:29 PM Virtually all the reviews I've read on it so far have renamed it "Harry vs. Puberty".
Diavolo 11-18-2005, 11:12 PM It was so cool!! Definitely the best so far. :w00t:

The 10 year old i babysit for will not see the movie, because last summer, (or maybe the summer before that), her mom was reading the book to her, and the girl got so terrified that she never finished the book. Still hasnt finished it... and she's now a 5th grader. [i tried to explain to her that finished it will create resolution, but she cant finish it.]
Did you let your 8 year old see the prisoner of azkaban? I dont think most 3rd graders should be seeing dementors, and Harry Potter only gets older, so the books/movies only get more intense.
Gibson 11-19-2005, 11:22 AM Harry Potter is evil :|
turtle_o 11-19-2005, 12:11 PM The coolest thing was in church when the monsigneur said he was going to do a sermon about Harry Potter. Some nuns wrote to him saying he had to talk about these evil Harry Potter books, and his sermon was all about the virtuous qualities of Harry Potter, and then he liked them to characterisitics that Jesus portrayed, the nuns were mad. It was great!
No_Brakes 11-19-2005, 01:19 PM Good for him!!! heh heh :nice:
Rayney 11-19-2005, 08:18 PM Harry Potter is evil :|
 Its a childrens book.
Snouter 11-19-2005, 09:34 PM Can anyone give an intelligently explained synopsis of the Harry Potter movie and Harry Potter in general? It seems like such a painfully boring character, do you have to take a drug of some kind to make it interesting?
Spazola 11-19-2005, 09:47 PM I'm gonna go see Harry Potter on monday! :w00t:
We were supposed to see it on Friday, but the movie times got all screwed up.
SwiftSloth 11-20-2005, 04:08 AM They just left way to much out for me, and the entire first 45 minutes seemed horribly horribly rushed. As did the rest of the movie, although not so bad.
Tomsk 11-20-2005, 07:06 AM Yeah I heard they were going to split it into 2 films, but that would have been crap. I really want to see it though. I'll have to arrange something...
DesiredRae 11-20-2005, 03:02 PM This movie was wicked awesome!
MsMojoRisin 11-20-2005, 03:08 PM They'll probably make one of those 6-week-long TV movies about it someday, which is true to the books. The thing is, these movies have to stand alone - they;re not just for people that have read the books, so they shorten them to a normal length.
I love Harry Potter :D
JTKirk33 11-21-2005, 12:52 AM I saw it on Friday. It was great!! So who is eventually gonna hook up with Hermiani?(sp), Harry or Ron? Not much of Draco in this one was there?
Tomsk 11-21-2005, 03:52 AM Have you not read HBP? The answer's there!
Hmm Draco is a cool character, does he get turned into a ferret by Mad Eye Moody? It'll be annoying if that's not in there. Oh and what is Mad Eye like?
I think we're going to see it on Wed, I can't wait!
FallenAngel 11-21-2005, 06:29 AM Saw it last night and wow.....just wow.
They did leave quite a bit out from the book and some things IMO were very important to the story. Not sure why they were left out.
But beyond all that this one is my fave.
I went and saw this today...best movie of the 4, so far, I think. I really didn't want it to end. There definately were things that I walked out of going 'why didn't we see that' or 'they didn't explain that very well' but the storey and 'feel' of it was great.
The Frog 11-28-2005, 09:56 AM I'd call this one the Empire Strikes Back of the series.
HBP when it hits movies will be the Revenge of the Sith for the series.

Yeah i had a hard time reading this story, i thought it just went on and on, it's the bigger than the previous two books, and when you get down to the plot it's just great, but to read it.... MAN!
(the next two are great though!) :) I love how in the last two he's really less of a kid and more grown up, you get glimpses of what kind of grown up he'll be.
This was my least favorite of all the books, (prisoner of azkaban is my favorite.)
The Frog 11-28-2005, 10:34 AM I've read them to review whether we'd consider them ok for the kids later on- I'm afraid I find the whole series, no matter how many pages, a quick-breeze through as far as reading. They're nicely written, don't get me wrong. Fairly imaginative and all, but after some of the reading I've had to do over the years I don't think I'd ever see these books as long or hard to get through. Try reading Robert Jordan once he really gets going halfway through his wheel of time series. THAT is a read that can drag sometimes.
I say this one is their Empire Strikes Back because unhappy things happen in plenty, dark revelations are made, and you don't end with a medal ceremony, ewoks on parade, House Championships, etc. You end with the heroes wounded and reeling but determined to face what comes and give it their best.
To answer Snouter's earlier question about what the interest in the series is- for the most part it's characters. The main being a boy that was raised in misery in an unloving home whose quiet dreams of just finding something reasonable are met with finding out he's enormously famous and not just a little wealthy, but he doesn't want fame or the misunderstandings that come with it. Friendships and mentor figures are found and lost, dreams mature with life's experiences. It's hardly Shakespeare but it's better than Seinfeld or Dersperate Housewives for the brainbox.

Tomsk 11-28-2005, 10:20 PM Well its quicker cos otherwise long post take up too much space, i hate rereading most of a post only to think half way through, "gah I've read it already, why don't people paraphrase!" yeah ok I'm pretty drunk right now.
Rayney 12-02-2005, 10:01 AM Am I the only one who thought of the Klan when the Deatheaters came out?

My son is 8, we went to see it together, and there was times I was worried that it is too much for him.

Keylia 09-16-2006, 12:48 AM Wow, this is an old thread.
I thought Harry Potter was a nice book series but I started to hate it by the 4th. I've read them all and they suck more with every new addition.
