View Full Version : The obscure lyrics quote game
I don't know 11-14-2005, 06:45 PM The rules:
1: all participants quote one characteristic line from the lyrics of a song (picking the title is a bad idea, because it's easier to google, but it still has to be characteristic)
2: after around 24 hours, if no one has guessed the song/artist, you have to give a hint
3: 24 more hours past that, you have to give an even better hint, one you figure would make it obvious what song it is to anyone who's heard it - without blurting out the name of the artist or the song itself, obviously.
4: If 24 hours pass after that, you tell everyone the name of the artist and song, and unless anyone has reason to say you've been giving too poor hints - you score a point.
5: if you guess a song's name without a hint, you get three points, with one hint, two points and with two hints you get one point.
6: not too obscure now, the music has to be available outside your own continent - so no tiny local punk bands :p
I don't know 11-14-2005, 06:48 PM I'll start with:
"They were saying things that I'd like you to hear"
Nathrakh 11-14-2005, 06:54 PM Whoa. <chuckle> With all those rules, ya' really think anyones gonna bite?
I don't know 11-14-2005, 06:59 PM the rules are pretty loose, and I'm sure there are plenty of people here who want to show off :l
Nathrakh 11-14-2005, 07:46 PM To each his/her own.
No_Brakes 11-14-2005, 07:50 PM Here's the thing, Nathrakh. This is why one needs the first 24 hour lead time, at least.
I know I've got it in my head - it just doesn't want to come out yet.
This song will most likely be haunting me in my dreams tonight! :D
Shelter 11-14-2005, 07:55 PM Agreed brakes. at 4 am, my neighbors are gonna hear me scream the name of this song at the top of my lungs when it wakes me from a deep sleep. then by the time i get to the computer it will be time to start all over, as i will have forgotten..:D
Nathrakh 11-14-2005, 08:34 PM Well, here's a lyric from another song to think about, if you can deal  :
"We will tell our children of the ancient lord"
No_Brakes 11-16-2005, 01:13 PM Hey, IDK, aren't we due (overdue, actually!) for another hint!?
Nathrakh 11-16-2005, 01:59 PM Hey, IDK, aren't we due (overdue, actually!) for another hint!?
I thought this might happen, IDK starts a game, and then forgets about it.
Here's the next hint for my lyric: It's a popular pagan song, to be more specific, the Witchcraft genre.
I don't know 11-16-2005, 04:37 PM Er, well I meant to write "after 24 hours" :|
Okay, sorry, the internet's been down. Here are some hints, not that you'll guess it anyway. Maybe it's too obscure:
It's an icelandic band with a female vocalist.
Also: several songs to be guessed at once is a good thing. Can't seem to find the ancient lord thing, it's obviously not popular enough to have it's lyrics on the net :(
No_Brakes 11-16-2005, 05:48 PM The only one that comes to my mind there would be The Sugarcubes. Not real familiar with their songs, though. Worthy of a check, however.
I don't know 11-18-2005, 09:58 AM Said icelandic band makes electronic music, has a female vocalist - but the particular quote seems to be sampled from a movie or something, it's spoken by a woman. The particuar tune is also kind of different from their other stuff.
Also, Nathrakh, new clue! :l

Tomsk 11-18-2005, 10:17 AM Um.. Bjork???
kellet 11-18-2005, 12:22 PM that one was too hard.
No_Brakes 11-18-2005, 12:34 PM Um.. Bjork???
Bjork was with The Sugarcubes before striking out on her own.
When IDK stated "band with female vocalist" that was what made me think of them.
Diavolo 11-18-2005, 11:49 PM Sigur Ros?
I don't know 11-19-2005, 06:58 AM This is embarrassing. And really shows the disadvantages of downloading mp3s (completely legal, of course :l)
The song is "kronos" by a German band called "mum", not the icelandic group "múm". No points for me then :nono:
kellet 11-19-2005, 07:14 AM OK, I'll try one. It's hard enough that you probably won't be able to find it on the first page of any google search, but hopefully not too hard. Hint: Band is known for lyrics as much chosen for the sound of the shape of the words as the actual words' meaning. Once made an album with the name of a US city in the title.
"You are a woman just as you are a man"

Can't say I've heard of either one of those bands, IDK. I must be getting old or something. ;)
Still mulling over the others.
SivVulk 11-19-2005, 11:29 AM "You are a woman just as you are a man"
Kellet, is that "Seekers Who Are" by the Cocteau Twins?
kellet 11-19-2005, 11:41 AM Kellet, is that "Seekers Who Are" by the Cocteau Twins?
too easy I guess. Damn you!
kellet 11-19-2005, 11:45 AM But the full title is Seekers Who Are Lovers.
No_Brakes 11-19-2005, 11:59 AM He does get some kind of pointage, though, I would think.
I'd consult the Rule Book but I have to get ready to leave soon.
I don't know 11-19-2005, 06:16 PM three points without hint, two with one, one with two hints. I found the song's name too, but that was because of google (first result!) so I didn't post it :p
Also, a new one:
I feel like hoppin up and down, like a kangaroo
jumpin fences, climbing trees, what pleases me is what I'll do
kellet 11-20-2005, 12:43 PM three points without hint, two with one, one with two hints. I found the song's name too, but that was because of google (first result!) so I didn't post it :p
Out of curiosity what did you type in google to find it? I searched it first and didn't see anything.

I wasn't thinking of denying him points - the partial title was good enough for me.
I don't know 11-20-2005, 02:22 PM Out of curiosity what did you type in google to find it? I searched it first and didn't see anything.- "You are a woman just as you are a man" I'm guessing you did it without the quotemarks?
kellet 11-21-2005, 06:41 AM damn I'm retarded. I don't deserve to play this game.
I don't know 11-21-2005, 12:15 PM LoL, I wouldn't have googled with the quotemarks if you hadn't put them there.
Mkay, now a hint for my quote above:
It's from an American musical.
No_Brakes 11-21-2005, 12:20 PM damn I'm retarded. I don't deserve to play this game.
You are not, they're not called obscure lyrics for nothing, ya know! ;)
I'll take a guess on the musical..."Victor/Victoria"?
