I'm going to be going overseas soon and will possibly have time to play some games; but I certainly won't be able to bring my desktop or laptop.

I prefer turn-based strategy or role-playing games over 'action' or 'real-time click fests'.

What portable game systems would you guys/ gals suggest ? Gameboy ? Playstation Portable ? What ?

Which games do you like the most for those systems ?

Why no laptop? When I went to Afghan, everybody and their dog brought their laptops. I've been out since May, though, so maybe things have changed a little bit. I read that soldiers at Camp Victory in Iraq had internet access in their hooches - don't know if that's true or not.

Other than that, I can't contribute here - sorry. I would think that Sony is probably the best bet just because they probably have the best game selection.

Stay safe over there, brah.

Shawn,

No laptop because I'll be living out of a rucksack most of the time I'm there ... and portables are easier to stash in a pocket of a ruck than a whole laptop.

And BTW, Camp Victory is in Kuwait and designated as the transient camp for troops en route back to the states. I.E. it's the last camp you live at before you board the plane to come home.

psp looks just fine tun good games in ps quality, dvd support.. hmms, but on the other hand nintendo ds - 2 displays, touch screen, castlevania etc.. it looks like psp has some cool looking games, better graphics and much bigger medium capacity, but nds games are lot more fun to play. and the cardrige capacity limits drives the coders to not add some useless sh1t just coz it looks good :) and it also supports gba roms. :)

i would say go with Sony PSP and gameflying before getting stuck with some that suck. but if g-fly prior to the trip isnt an option, still cop the sony psp. more portable than a laptop and a little less fragile.... :nice:

Some people like the PSP and others the Nintendo DS---the PSP has more features--you can play mp3's and movies on it as well as games---that isnt true for the DS---Although DS owners do seem to like them

if i wanted to watch movies i'd get a laptop. psp may have more features, but nds has more games /+ count the gba games in too/.

Shelter,

Don't you think I'm a little old for those. Heck, I'm almost old enough to be your father ! Almost.

I have a PSP and I'm very happy with it. Not only can you play games, but you can also buy movies for it, get on the internet and use it as an mp3 player. The only drawback is everything is really expensive. If you wanted to get a high capacity memory card, look at spending at least an extra $100. It was all worth it to me, though. :)
