I was lamenting last night, my digital life is a total mess. I have multiple locations for my pictures, music, I have friends music, not integrated into one location, I have 2 spindles full of backups that go back 9 years. Lots of duplication. Lots of stuff on one CD and no where else. I need to get my digital life in order. I've had my laptop for almost a year, and I don't even have my pictures on it.
So, todays task, until I go out later, is to try and:
a) consolodate all of my music
b) import all of my digital pictures into my laptop
c) start going through my backup CDs
I want to get all the data from my CDs, onto my hard drive, to get a 'master backup' and then destroy/throw away all of my CDs, and burn a few DVDs with it all. It will lessen the clutter and confusion. Its also just a good way to kill time.
My next longer term project is to scan all of my pictures so they are on the computer, then get everything online.
I started thinking about this at work the other day, given HOW much data the company has and how much duplication of data we have. In my own personal data store, I have a ton of a data, a ton of duplication, I need to find a way to make that work better.
