I don't understand why people still make jokes about bombs at airports.I would have thought common sense would have prevailed ,but maybe not . Here's the latest example . Last night CBC news said the gentleman was now looking for an apology.

I dunno Alan, after reading the article, the guy is a moron for saying what he did, but that seems VERY dreastic.

I guess I should say, IF they charge him that is very drastic. I would hope the DA will drop the charges.

Like, he didn't even joke about having a bomb, he just asked if that was that they were looking for in a CHANGE purse...thats funny! Not approprioate/smart given the time, but ANY other time, (maybe still not at an airport) it would be funny.

I am happy they questioned him, etc, but if they charge him, I think that is wrong.

I find it even more funny when gansters shoot deaf people when they think they are flashing gang signs.

Ha ha har, now THAT is comedy. No but really im hoping they introduce a constitutional ammendment to make uttering the word "bomb" a treasonous offense. Or EVEN better lets bring back the alien and sedition acts, i bet you could get 67% of the American people behind it. Thatd put an end to all those re-tarded Saturday Night Live sketchs about G.W. Infact shit lets just install the Bush's as Americas first monarchy hes got what like an 80% approval rating these days doesnt he? Those terrorist attacks were the best thing that ever happened to his political career. Hes got bi-partisan support and i bet hes been praising jesus like a good thing.

Not sure whats more pathetic: The pigs arresting him for this stupid crap, or his daughter agreeing, and saying that he should have never said it. In any event the only real criminal is the system. Its the same in the U.S., constitution be damned.

they have had signs and policies that have said not to even joke about it. And of course people are not being rational right now.

It's been taboo to joke about bomb threats in airports for as long as I can remember, and it SHOULD just be common sense not to, especially nowadays. If everything happened as reported however "mocking the cop for looking for a bomb in a coin pouch", that's just plain assinine. That wasn't a bomb threat of any type, just an off color remark that lacked some common sense.

The fact that the daughter allegedly sided with the cops either indicates that the story may not be exactly as reported or a bad sign of just how paranoid this country has become. IF the story is as reported, I hope the guy can somehow sue the sh*t out of those involved, even his daughter.

Only a retarded f'n idiot would make a joke like that.
I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

What an idiot.

That's the way I feel too.A lot of airports have signs stating that it's a serious offence to make any remarks like this.
I have seen several newbie flight attendant suspended for joking about bombs.
It IS serious and should never be joked about.

Alan and Bill -

I agree it should NOT be joked about, especially in these times. But serving two years in prison? This isn't like he screamed bomb on a laoded plane. He made one comment to one security officer, by what the article says, in a joking manner.

I am VERY happy they took him into custody and grilled him, BUT I do not think this man should serve more time than he was held for if there was no bomb/suspcicious material.

The idiot is an example and it sends a message to any would be jokers out there.

Have fun buddy.

Bill, would you care to explain what this idiot is an example of? And what message it sends to 'would be jokers.'

Like, a fine, I wouldn't mind. Even this being grounds for wiretaps/searches. Definatley

But TWO YEARS in federal prison?

ya, lets "make an example" of him... If someone made an example of me, for no fuking reason, I would be very pissed. I would question every rule and law. After serving prison time, I would be free... I think many people might snap, I know I would. And I would feel very sorry for the next people that would meet me durring my state of vengance. Once armed and free, many would die.

Above is an example to look at, what could happen using your opinion.

????

I don't believe the attitudes I'm seeing on this board!

Blanchard was travelling with his wife Albina, 75, when he says he innocently asked a baggage handler in Charlottetown if she was looking for a bomb in his wife's change purse.

He didn't make a bomb THREAT! He made a smart-ass comment to the cop about looking for a bomb in a change purse! A CHANGE PURSE!!!!

Doesn't anyone think that maybe riffling through a change purse itself is a little overzealous?

The man is 81 years old! I wonder what the chances of him walking out of prison alive are? Probably not that good.

Like, a fine, I wouldn't mind. Even this being grounds for wiretaps/searches.

Only a retarded f'n idiot would make a joke like that.
I hope he gets the book thrown at him.
What an idiot.

Aren't you two being a little self-righteous? Especially you Bill? Are either of you going to tell me that you are so perfect that neither of you have made a stupid/smartass/off-color comment at anytime in your life?

Why should he even deserve a fine/wiretaping?

Ok, ok, ok.
But a clear and strong message NEEDS to be sent to any would be jokers out there.

Bill, doesn't the stronger message need to be sent to the would be bombers out there?

I mean, I think for a 'joker' missing your flight, being interrogated by the FBI IS a BIG message. They are not taking these things lightly.

But jail time?

Gary- I see how searches/wiretaps are overzealous, but not the fine. I mean, if anyone else heard the word 'bomb' it could cause a panic during a tense situation. But the fact is...it wasn't evne a threat.

What kind of fine are we talking about?

Actually I think good punishment right now would be 100 hrs community service either in one of the hospitals where the victims of the attack were sent, or helping to clean up the mess.

There have been alot of murders in the world...

I think we should arrest people who joke about murder...

And child abuse isnt funny...if people joke about that we should give them 2 years of prison time too...

in fact...

why not just lock up anyone who makes a joke that a police officer finds unapropriate...
