Are we being punished for being a bad message board?

No one's delivered any spankings here

 Got me.

Maybe if more people bought premo memberships and DA merch via cafepress (the links for which are conveniently located in Manu's signature), we could afford a higher-capacity server.

Cheap bastards.

And yes, I know that everybody who's posted in this thread so far is a premo member, I'm not talking about you.

The contributions limit what I pay out of pocket. Right now our costs are 90/mo with a few hundred in annual costs. The next 'jump' for our server would look at 30-40/mo more...

So, what you really need are 9 or 10 new Premium Members to sign up for annual memberships - or to auction off a Super Mod spot for $500.

Hmmmm......

I would really love to have BANNING POWERS.

A large percentage of the time, I see there are X number of posts, I click on this and then it says message hasn't been found (or words to that effect) then I click to go back and there are 0 posts. If it is not possible to fix this bug then please change the board code to make it so if there are 0 number of new posts then it will show the last 100 posts/in whatever number of threads (I think that is a fairly good work around).

That's a cool idea,I wonder there's a way they could do this or even a way we could do it...

I was thinking about this......

Is there any way to increase the time limit between posts for non-premo members? That would still maintain DA's "free-to-all" flavor but encourage bum users (like myself) to actually sign up for premo. Or, if not a permanent time limit increase, but during peak service hours? I'm not even sure when the peak times are, but say from like 4pm EST to 10pm EST all non-premo members will have a 4-minute time out between posts.

fat mike

RR,true to your new sig,the idea is obnoxious...

ResidentRice
11-05-2005, 01:06 AM
really? I thought it'd be a good way to

1) take some stress off the bandwidth, and
2) encourage people to go premo

No_Brakes
11-05-2005, 01:09 AM
That wouldn't encourage anything.

There are people who truly can't afford it. It wouldn't give them any incentive to even want to be here.

ResidentRice
11-05-2005, 01:12 AM
....hmmm, so I take it both of you think that's a horrible idea?

I don't know, I was just throwing it out there.

No Brakes-

I don't think RR was talking about 5 minutes between posts or something, but instead of 30 seconds, make it a minute or two.

There is a way to do that, but I don't think thats a route we want to go.

Our goal for Premium Memberships has been to NOT decrease what we give to normal users, to make premium members better, but to increase/enhance Premium Members experience. So if you can think of a 'killer idea' that would get you to go Primo, let me know that...

One thing I need to do is put more ads up for NOT REGISTERED users. Thats a big first step. I think we look pretty clean right now, for logged in users, so I don't want to change that.

There are some software updates I can do, that I hope will decrease load. I am going to start on those this weekend. But the major updates may end up taking a few weeks to go through.

Also, just because a member is a primo that doesn't make them "better" than a non primo.

Some of the most interesting contributors to this site IMO are non primos. And frankly, there are some primos that I think contribute little or nothing to DA. And yeah, I'm sure some would say I'm one of them. I'll try hard to care, but my give a damn's busted :p

If only you knew how crappy my computer really is - basically, I already experience that.

So if you can think of a 'killer idea' that would get you to go Primo, let me know that...

Right now the only options available would be to marry rich or hope someone drops a winning lottery ticket at my feet, at least until my unemployment gets renewed.

I've seen that elsewhere - not a bad idea.

Give yourself a break,Beatle-I'm not much for your music but you've had some cute productive ideas since you started that nonofficial dl thing-if you'd follow through some of that would take off.

How about a semi-preemo member account? something about half the cost of a full preemo membership, with a couple of added bonuses...then add something spiffy for full preemos...like get rid of the sixty second time limit between posts (unless abused) and maybe a way to have warnings disappear one by one after a period of good beahvior.

Another idea...add a mod that the members vote in themselves...have nominees & a little election...then 'we the people' know there's someone that even if we don't like their way of dealing with problems...we know we voted them in...and we'll respect that.
