I've seen a number of boards (and blogs, for that matter) that filter out brand names - has to do with copyright and trademark laws and the possibility/potential for lawsuits, if a company doesn't like how one is using the name. I haven't encountered any places recently that still filter names out, but I have heard that names like even Tylenol and Advil are still censored - if you wanted to talk about either of them, you'd have to use the chemical names in order to avoid the filters.
