I'm glad we share this knowledge. Since the days of Abin Sur, I've known of Sector 2814. The Frog 05-09-2002, 04:32 PM Abin Sur. We hardly knew ye. Hal Jordan's been my personal fave since the beginning. Who else could lay out Kal El with one punch when he's really miffed? In brightest day, In blackest night... Green Lantern's Light Redfield 05-09-2002, 05:08 PM I find the fact that TheFrog would choose Green Lantern as his fav hero......appropriate. The Green Lantern was one of the ORIGINAL super heros, depicted on radio... The Frog 05-09-2002, 11:10 PM Um...I think you're thinking of Green Hornet. Sidekick named Kato? Green Lantern came into being not long after superman and batman. Power ring, could make anything out of Green energy, only limitation was he could not affect anything yellow. Unless, there was a radio show that included him with supes and the others. Who knows? Did you know that there's a hard-cover graphic novel called "Legacy: The Last Will And Testement Of Hal Jordon"? Was it The Shadow or The Phantom? The Frog 05-10-2002, 12:04 AM Actually, it turned out NOT to be necessary. The Guardians themselves had no such weakness. (Hence Apu Ali Apsa nabbing Sinestro in one smack, despite yellow ring) Also, it was discussed at one point that the guardians did it inentionally to keep Absolute Power from tempting thier otherwise noble peacekeepers. They even explained Alan Scott, the Golden age one with the wood weakness, as being a case where they changed the weakness. Notice too, that when Hal tapped the central battery directly on two separate occasions, yellow meant jack to him. Plus, when he absorbed the battery there was no weakness. Nor a need for the ring. I supposed since my childhood that if a Lantern bonded with the power sufficiently, it would begine to grow in him where eventually he could generate it like the guardians did. That power would be weakness-free, as the yellow inhibior was tied to their individual batteries and rings. Hal demonstrated teh infused power when he tossed all teh rrings and flew under his own power to the Central Battery. It may have been The Shadow The Frog 05-10-2002, 12:10 AM I remember Phantom having a ring that let him do stuff. Shadow was just cool. I even like/own the VHS of the movie with Alec (plese stay outta politics) Baldwin. Say, at a comix convention. The Frog 05-10-2002, 12:14 AM IT was brought out by the writers and interviews at the time around whcih Hal became Parallax. The new kid has Hal's old ring and it has no colour weakness. Just an odd recharge time. Redfield 05-10-2002, 12:39 AM Is that the 24 hr recharge period? The Frog 05-10-2002, 09:17 AM Well, the whole ‘recharge’ idea is kind of a misnomer, as the guardians once pointed out. The ring won’t run out of power no matter how much you use, as long as it’s under 24 hours (some other species of GL got other timing to go with their biology) while at the same time if a GL didn’t expend any energy at all during that period, it would still stop working after 24. Stop, except that it could still preserve the GL’s life. The reason is that the rings were programmed to just quit tapping their corresponding batteries when the time expired, unless re-initiated. However, the programming to preserve the life of their bearer supercedes that. Thus, GL who neglects to reinitiate his ring’s flow and ends up stuck in space won’t die in hard vacuum. He may pass out but the ring would keep him alive and send a distress call to the nearest active GL. Anyhow, Kyle Rainier (the new kid) seems to have a different time limit on his deal, although it’s technically Hal’s old ring. The Frog 05-10-2002, 12:03 PM BTW- you know of course that Hal's character has been totally screwed up by the writers, right? He is now Spectre, with the powers of Spectre and Paralax combined, but the look is mostly Spectre. Redfield 05-10-2002, 12:57 PM I haven't read GL for quite a few years. But thanks for giving me a Readers' Digest update. |
