We started bombing afghanistan...I wonder where this goes...
November marks the start of rhamadan I believe. That is the muslim holy month. Do you think we'd continue action during that? We'd have some arab nations up in arms.
When/do you think we will hav ground forces in afghanistan? Or are we going to carpet bomb them for a while?
These first strikes seem fairly mild as far as number/intensity.
This is basically at the level of the 98 strikes. Where/what pace do you think we will move?

I'm 32, but looking for an excuse to enlist. This whole debacle is starting to piss me off. I am looking for an excuse to enlist. I hope the whole thing escalates before I'm too old or make too much more money. I have a bad feeling that we have taken on a campaign much bigger than we suspected. In any event, I don't think we will ever capture Osama alive. When he is history, there are still 19 children to carry on his pathetic name. Does anyone know if OPEC met today?

A chief Pakistan dude who rose to power via a bloodless coup in 1999, Pres. Musharraf, was on and sounded very reasonable. He speaks English extremely well and is very forth coming when answering questions during the press conference which is quite unlike the arrogance of US officials during their press conferences. He was trained in the UK on two occasions apparently and pride himself on being diplomatic in his approach to issues.
The implication is that the Northern Alliance of Afghans will do the ground war after the Taliban is softened up a bit and that the new government should not be imposed by outsiders, but on the other hand, they must insure the Northern Alliance doesn't have too much power lest they return to killing each other with the many civil wars.
Also the "Urban Renewel" project that is going happen after the Taliban close up shop is going to cost the US taxpayer millions of dollars.
The cause of the terrorism, in his opinion, is the fact that disputes around the world are not resolved justly.
The real difficulty is what will happen after the Taliban disperse with many defecting and joining the Northern Alliance.

I would love to know whats "really" going on there.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I agree Bill...
It will be interesting to see how long bombing lasts as there are not that many targets we could even bomb.
We've mobilized a fair share of men, but I doubt we will land any large forces, mostly special ops for now.
What do you guys think in regards to the coming winter and the coming muslim holiday?

Most of the overt stuff will be over by the Muslim holiday. The major bombarding will be over by then, so the special ops guys can take over with aircraft support if needed.
There are already American, British and French special ops force ready to go. The 100th Mountian division, 1,000 of which are over there, regardless of what is being said, is not a search and rescue group (I think FOX reported this) http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif .
