I am so not ready for this

My son started middle school this year. They had their first dance recently, and a girl asked him to be her date.

:nonono:

Of course, being the sly one that he is, he "developed an attitude problem" so he was grounded from the dance. By his own choosing, mind you.

He's 11. Way too young for any kind of date, IMO.

It sounds then like he's avoiding it,no?

I got my first boyfriend when I was eleven. :|

Was he friends with the girl who asked him? That would explain why he wanted to be grounded...he didn't want to go with her, but at the same time he didn't want to hurt her feelings.

Yeah, he's still in his "girls are icky" stage. I'm praying it lasts till he's 30.

I don't know if they were friends or not.....he was just very uncomfortable about it :p

He is, but I'm a tad biased ;)

He looks older than 11, which is kinda unsettling at times with girls :hmm:

Why are you afraid? At 11yrs old they are not even thinking about what you have in mind.

What I'd like to know is what on earth the school was thinking.

Back in my school days, your first dance wasn't until eighth grade.

I've never been to a school dance, being homeschooled, but I don't think its that big of a deal.

Now, if the girl had asked him to the movies or something, THEN you should attack her....;)

pff. yeah right.
I was thinking about it from the moment I figured out what it was.
Of course I had an.. interesting childhood, so maybe im not a good barometer for such things.

My oldest son has stopped saying girls are gross.. he just gets embarrased when you mention it around him..

My youngest son on the other hand.. he is all all about the ladies. And he likes older girls too. Ya take the kid anywhere, and it's just a matter of time before he has a group of girls, all at least 4 years older than him, in a circle around him, talking to him.

damn kid is too cute for his own good. I think it is something that will get him in trouble some day... :|

Well, girls really DO have cooties. So he's a very smart kid for avoiding them while he still can.

Besides, I'm sure that "dance" mostly consisted of the boys standing on one side of the room and the girls standing on the other.

Why? Are you hoping he grows up to be an interior decorator? :p

At that age....at most of those dances they usually are at opposite sides of the dance floor. They are curious but not really into wanting to touch a girl or boy who has Cooties....lol. Now in a couple of years you can worry...but now...I wouldnt worry to much about it.

I agree . You seem like a good parent and it's rough this day to be one. Bless you and good luck .

Guys on one side, girls on the other until there was about 30 minutes left. THEN some people would dance.

I dunno about HS, I only went to one  I went to my prom and she left halfway through :hmm:

I'm hardly an expert on the topic :p
