View Full Version : Banning from specific threads

There should be a way for a thread starter to ban specific users from that thread. There's a user that's been bothering me so much that it ruins my mood whenever I see their posts.

I agree, though it would mean that poor Ernie would never get to post unless he started a thread himself.

C'mon, no need to bait him.

IMO there are more offensive posters than Ernie. I was actually thinking of someone else. If I met this person in real life I would have a hard time maintaining my composure.

You will have to try & see things on a lighter note Kellet. If you are getting that upset, then the other poster has done their job, they are pleased. People who bait & troll do not take our complaints seriously, its a game to them. You'll have to learn to let it slide...most of the time. The best thing you can do is step over their post like it's dog poo & keep going.

you can do that... put them on ignore :)

Then I still see the posts when someone quotes them, and there is always the morbid curiosity to read their posts anyway.

you can do that... put them on ignore :)I currently have 8 ppl on ignore. Sometimes it ruins the whole thread because I don't know what anyone is saying...

Plus, there are some people who insist on derailing and otherwise ruining every thread. Ignore does nothing about that problem.

As tempting as this idea is, it is not good. A board I in which I participated a few years ago had such a feature (as well as letting thread starters delete posts). It turned into chaos as warring members banned and edited each other.

The Ignore feature is good enough, imo.

Umm, that feature,,,really doesn't work. Adding a member to your ignore list is useless because you can still click "View This Post", so, the board is not actually hiding,,,anything.

I know cuz I tried it when a certain member was typing rather nasty things about a certain group of people.

I agree it doesn't work. When you are trying to debate an issue it's difficult to effectively do so if you have someone implying you're an idiot and posting less than candid facts.

Well,,, in this member's defense he/she never impled anything. He/she was being a major bunghole though.

but you don't HAVE to click it ;)

I'll see if there's something else we can use, but I highly doubt it :(

True. Still, I found myself clicking on it just to see what the post said. The best thing to do i've found is just to not fuel the fire.

I think one of the biggest concerns is that their quotes are still visible (when quoted by another poster). If there was a way to block that aspect of it, the ignore feature would appeal to more users.

Maybe if when you clicked on the post, instead of seeing what the person said, you get a picture of Hillary Clinton. People would learn not to be curious.
