So I don't know if anyone else has been seeing it in the news the last day or two, but here she is again, her 12 year sentence for the serial raping and killing of a bunch of women to include her own sister finished.

She's out now with a new look, a new language, a new and unknown location and a new exciting boyfriend with criminal convictions for assault.

Is she dangerous to the public?

If so, should something be done about it or is that unconstitutional.

I can't find the current current news yet. It's on CourtTV news, but hasn't hit American papers yet. I'll post the latest if I can find it, but here's what I can find online so far:

Homolka is a psychopath: victims' lawyer

Tuesday, July 05, 2005

TORONTO -- The lawyer for the families of Karla Homolka's victims says the now-famous CBC French interview she gave is vintage Homolka.

Tim Danson is holding a news conference at this hour to respond to Moday's interview in Montreal with Radio Canada.

He says Homolka gave a performance that shows she is still very capable of controlling the situation.

He calls her a psychopath who is incapable of feeling remorse.

Danson says Homolka is sure to reoffend, the chances that she won't are as big as "a fish swimming out of water.''

Homolka was released from prison yesterday after serving all of her 12-year sentence for manslaughter in the deaths of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy of St. Catharines, Ontario.

Good find!

Ya, that is part of it, but the latest is that this guy Richer Lapointe also secretly video-taped her breaking whatever rules it was she was released under. It's been on CTV off and on today.

The thing is she served her time in full. In the U.S. that would mean she has no parole and no obligation to the state and isn't breaking anything. Now, the way the news is putting it, apparently that is different somehow in Canada (maybe for specific crimes? anyone know?) and there is some agreement that she has to follow certain rules to sustain release - rules she has apparently broken.

I haven't quite gotten to the bottom of their (Canadian) subtleties of law, so anyone who can offer some information that would be very helpful.

No prob,so what's your take? I mean a deal's a deal but she's still a threat,is there a way to draw the line without welshing on the agreement?
Doesn't it come down to the old attitude of "laissez faire" being disfunctional? "Laissez faire" not in the classic economic sense but in the sense that if you're trying to rehabilitate a criminal you have to stay involved and not "let it ride"?

I think 12 years was a ****ty sentence. If I were Canada, I'd re-try her on some of the other murders (that sentence was only for two of them) assuming they have enough evidence to show her guilt. Give her another 12, more if possible.

The problem with this case is during her trial, all of Canada was blocked from having any information about her hearing, because they didn't want people to have any opinion when Bernardo went on trial. It wasn't until his trial that her innocent victim image was proven false.
It was years later before I found enough info to find out what really went on. She is a very sick disturbed person who has shown no true remorse or understanding of what she has done. I mean, who offers her own sister to a man to rape & defile? I hope she finds herself behind bars forever.

I didn't know about the publicity (or lack thereof) during the trial. I became aware of the two well after the fact, maybe Investigative Reports or something.

I agree with you, Myst. I think she's a danger to the community and like you, I hope she ends up rotting her entire life away behind bars hopefully before someone else gets hurt.
