Tom Clancy was on C-Span a few hours ago. Does anyone read his books?

His first novel is my favorite, "The Hunt For Red October". I'd guess that he's not a liberal, but I'd be pulling that out of my butt. I do know that he's well liked by the military and his books are required reading at military schools.

I enjoy his books, they always seem well researched and believable :) I very much enjoyed red storm rising, as I felt it dealt very much with the human aspect of people involved in world war 3.

I'd say Debt of Honor answers the "capitalist" question

Without Remorse was my favorite since Clark is my favorite charactor (Was pissed William Defoe played him and I like Defoe)

You know, that's a funny question. Ryan's character was not nearly as conservative as I thought he'd be when he was made president. I think that I just assumed Clancy would be really conservative because its all pro-military and anti-government kind of stuff, but on further readings it seems more like he's anti-bureaucracy, just a no BS kind of guy. I'm actually very curious as to what his political views are, and I didn't vote because what I think he is is not one of the options.

The more I think of it, the harder it seems to actually distill a political ideology out of his writings. You can work a lot of it either way.

And tell me about Defoe! What a horrible casting job on that one..... I like the guy they got for Ding in "C&PD" and Harrison Ford was passable as the older Jack Ryan. I think my fav was Cardinal of the Kremlin, at least amongst the lesser known books.

RR - Tom Clancey donated campaign contributions to Alan Keyes who was anti-abortion...

Thanks for that little bit of info, interesting. But he was still the repulican candidate, right?

Yeah, the Ding character just really closely matched my mental picture of him, while Defoe looked more like the Clark of my mental image 5 inches shorter, emaciated from lack of food and smoking for approx. 30 years, oh, and about 20 years too old.

I also thought James Earl Jones was the perfect Greer....one of my favorite actors BTW

Dammit! I don't want to agree with you on anything!

I am diametrically opposed to you, Caddis!

Well, maybe we can just agree on Clancy then. And James Earl Jones too. But no more, say you think that CarrotTop should have been cast as Jack Ryan so I can rip you a new one.
