Sept. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling almost 1 million light trucks, its largest U.S. recall, to check for and repair a steering-related flaw that in the worst case could cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle.

The voluntary action by the world's second-largest automaker covers 1989 through 1996 model 4Runner sport-utility vehicles, as well as compact Toyota Truck and T-100 pickups, the company's U.S. unit said in an e-mailed statement today. The recall covers as many as 375,000 4Runners, 535,000 small pickups and 68,000 T- 100s, spokesman Sam Butto said.

We own two Toyotas and love them immensely. Tacoma 2003 and Rav 4 2004, Doubt we will ever by a ford or Dodge again in our lifetime. Chev maybe but very doubtful. What US car company can boast a 490,000 kilometer run our last toyota had (1987 Toyota pickup) and it was really not that bad on repairs even at the end but the body just gave up.

There are plenty of American cars out there that have over 200K Miles on them. If anyone thinks that amercian cars arent capable, think again.

The article indicates there where no reports of accidents or injuries in the Toyota trucks. The Ford recall that the article mentions is the subject of numerous lawsuits as a result of the fire damage that occurs even when the Ford tough vehicle is parked overnight. The Ford tough engineers designed a cruise control switch that reacts with brake fluid and spontaneously combusts. If you have a Ford tough product disconnect that switch immediately to prevent a major explosioin.
