Stopped by The Boxcar tonight. I didn't bring my guitar but another guitarist let me borrow his for the two songs we did (Crossroads and a blues jam in A). The guy in the plaid shirt was a good blues singer. The other guitarist was very good and part of the opening band. I struggled a bit on leads with that Start copy guitar. Everything was on a very clean setting.

RedLine, I don't think so. I know I tried to do a dive bomb with the vibrato bar on that thing and it went completely quiet so I might have been making an effort to stay away from the floating bridge at that point.

Oops, yeah, well we did it again.

We did 2 1/4 songs. I was pretty nervous, never having hooked up the Variax and the PODxt Live in the fast paced setting of an open mic situation before. But it was pretty simple, just found a plug for the power, connected the ethernet cord, plugged into an amp (preferrably it would go into the mixing board direct), and then used the POD to silently tune up. Adding to the stress was that there were no house band members playing. We tried to figure out what to play and for some reason (I think because my brother mentioned it) we ended up trying starting out with The Doors' Roadhouse Blues. It is a simple song, but I wished I was more familiar with the trademark Robby Krieger lead on that. As mentioned, one of my brothers was there and he sang it Morrison-style, actually a little too over the top. :p We then did a blues in E but couldn't get anything together after that and we ended up doing a little of Takin' Care of Business which fell apart somewhat embarrassingly.

Not fully visible behind me is the keyboardist, who did a superb job on Roadhouse Blues.

Is Cowpunk gigging this month?

I think so - didn't he mention something about being on the road in the chess tournament thread?

Why is he too shy to let us know if he will be in New York or Philly, for example? I would try to catch a show. Does he do punk music?

Don't know.

I recall he said he'd be in Philly in the fall (and I definitely plan on clearing my calendar for that one!), so I figure he'll be in your neck of the woods around that time as well. Who knows - maybe I can squeeze in a road trip then! :D

I think we can find out who Cowpunk really is by doing a search as to who is gigging this week.

I think you're the only one that hasn't figured out who he is yet. It's not punk, no.

I am going to try to catch his show January 20.

The word on the street is that some guys are going try to re-establish the Boxcar and rename it with a reference to the Monkees. Who knows though.

OK, I find this intriguing. Keep me posted.

Keep in mind The Monkees were my "first" group, dating back to my crush on Davy Jones when I was 6. :D A Monkees-themed club might be interesting.

I think I recall myself and my brothers picking up The Monkees Headquarters album at the local department store and then playing it on the all tube Fisher home console stereo in Michigan way back then.

I just listened to Daily Nightly, the song featured on the show with Mickey just sitting there wearing a turtleneck pretending to mess around with a synthesizer. Very psychedelic.

Oddly enough (maybe not?) when I finally got some sleep last night (more like morning, actually  ), I drifted off to imagining myself in a micromini and white go-go type boots dancing around.

Next time I go scoping shoe stores, I believe I have now found what I absolutely must keep an eye out for! :D
