View Full Version : Do you listen to FM radio morning talk shows?
KillZone 08-22-2005, 06:29 AM In the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, most of the FM radio stations have early morning programs where 2 or 3 “DJs” talk incessantly, tell jokes accompanied with recorded laughter, and play commercials. For example, Q102’s program is called the Morning Edge. I find it hard to believe that these programs exist because they are so pathetic (to me, that is). I don’t listen to them. Instead, I pop a CD in and listen to actual music.
However, these programs do exist because there is a demand for them (Economics 101).
I am getting old (50 is definitely “getting old”). Maybe that is why I detest these talk shows.
QUESTION: Do any of you find these programs entertaining?
colonel 08-22-2005, 07:53 AM Radio stations the world over all use the same formats.
When I moved to Australia in '81 I couldn't help but notice that the stations there were exactly the same as the ones here in Toronto.
I stopped listening to commercial radio nearly 20 years ago and whenever I'm in someone elses vehicle and they have it on I remember why I stopped.
Mr. Know It All 08-22-2005, 09:03 AM I can't stand commercial radio. It is usually a cd or the radio is off. However, the few times I listen to it in the morning I tune to a channel without the lame bantering.
If I want talk radio I will tune to an AM news station.
I like Walton and Johnson. They used to brodcast from here, but now they are in Houston. We still get them though. They aren't like the other run of hte mill type shows (read: bob and tom lol lololololololololol lol). They even make fun of those types of shows.
Proud to be a 10%'er
after it's over, I go to AM or listen to XM if I brought my radio with me to work. If I'm not at work, it's XM only
Do you listen to FM radio morning talk shows?
No. They tend to be insipid and juvenile. Just shut up and play music, except for the occasional "that was [song title] by [artist]," maybe the occasional background information on said artist, plus traffic and weather reports.
Or I'll listen to AM political (right) talk shows.
Manstein 08-22-2005, 11:50 AM The Bob & Tom Show. They are hilarious, especially when they have good guest comedians on the show. If I'm not listening to them, I'll listen to FM News talk (Jim Quinn, Rush, Mike Savage, Glenn Beck).
Occasionally I'll listen to Pittsburgh's DVE morning show with Jim Krenn and Randy Bowman.
bopst 08-22-2005, 12:02 PM Just shut up and play music...
my sentiments...exactly.
That's why I have my radio show. To have some small piece of the local commercial airwaves (and internet) that doesn't subcribe to corporate mandated play lists and genre specific formatting.....
Give it a listen sometime...
SecretSamadhi 08-22-2005, 12:43 PM I listen to NPR
boedicca 08-22-2005, 12:45 PM No. I watch a bit of CNBC and then switch over to my iPod while in transit.
I had all but cut commercial radio out of my diet until I began commuting.
30 minutes each way, 5 days a week. Even with a 6 disc changer in my car, every few months I'd go through all my CDs..and some CDs just aren't commuting music.
I usually listen to a mix of NPR, the news, and 3 dumb DJs in the morning on my drive in, a CD with the windows down, on my way home.
Criminal 08-23-2005, 01:40 AM I listen to Air America mainly. Sometimes I will listen to NPR and on rare occasions will tune in to the mainstream fascist talk radio as well. Just for laughs I listen to Sean Hennity. The guy is such a looser its down right hilarious to listen to him rant!
flaming_liberal 08-23-2005, 01:52 AM I don't have a CD player in my car, my car kits were all stolen, and my CD player just broke, so I have a tape from ages ago that I play in the morning of various punk bands. Keeps me awake and pisses off the teenyboppers playing their rap with the bass up so high that they have problems speaking because their testicles are vibrated so much. Sometimes I wonder if it'd be a kind act to kick them there.
