Hmmm... most of them already have the vocal parts built in... :P

This really will be insanity! :p

when I was 15 I was in east germany once, and we was eating a restaurant (red cabbage and meat-fat with glassy patatoes) and this guy behind one of those livingroom organs was playing western hits especially for us.

Diavolo, is it working for you? The midi files should not have a vocal track.

Does everyone have a sound program that reads midi files?

From what I understand, there is technology to do this sort of thing live on the net using one of the messenger type programs.

Sorry about that Diavolo, it appears there is a vocal track on them as a keyboard type sound. That is handy to sing in the right key and melody, but should be deleted for final cut.

It seems we should probably find a different source of songs to do this. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for as many participants as possible.

so we take a file, delete the song part, sing the song part, and assign sounds of our choosing to all the instruments?
I can do it in cubase or fruityloops or sonar.

actually, snouter, its going to be really tempting from now on to find the midi track for the next guitar battle track and use that as a song structure...

I'd try it, if:

1. I knew how to do it. I am PC challenged :(

2. I had a mic.

I would suck, but I'd do it

Let's get beatlebabe going on this project.

beatlebabe, your PC probably has a little mic input. If you don't have a mic, they are like $5.99 at CompUSA or similar retail chain.

The next step is to get you some shareware. I think oki may have some ideas for that, but simple recording applications are available on the net for download. Watch out for spyware though.

I have to ask my brother. It's his PC :hmm:

If he OK's it, and we get it all set up, I'm in though :nice:

Meanwhile, I have been searching for free stuff and found THIS (http://www.sonic.net/~fli/wink/default.htm) old site. Haven't download it or tried it yet though. There are some pay sites that are pretty advanced with the option to save the output as an mp3 so others can listen.

I guess the ultimate situation would be some software that can provide for a conference call kind of thing so we can hear the action live at a specific agreed upon date.

best to try what snouter posted, I think. I found one freeware program, but it didnt do midi.
if you really serious about starting out, someone adviced me, buy a Computer Music magazine, it comes with a cdrom, which has a basic setup for music recording, sequencer with audio tracks etc. its supposed to be quite easy to use.

For the next Guitar Combat what is everyone in the mood for? I just saw some old footage of Bobby Darin on public TV doing Bo Diddley's Bo Diddley and thought that might be fun. It is probably the easiest song ever invented and open to a wide range of interpretations.

RedLine, very cool job! :nice:

It seems like the last little bit got nipped off. Anyway, I was drinking a beer as I listened and achieved a cyber-karaoke bar effect.

I must admit my curiosity has been piqued. Let me know if you get the logistics sorted out to the extent that a tech challenged person such as myself can give it a go. :nice:

I do have a mic on my web cam if that helps at all.

Ray Stevens rocks..LOL

Just found this thread and it seems funny as all hell. If ya find any better sites for midi's let me know. Never messed with em, but it could be interested. I too am tech challenged. Hell, I have to have redline upload my songs for me, I am that retarded. Can I submit a beatles cover I did in the studio?? Its not the same and all, but it is a Beatles song. I've just seen a face..LOL
