I saw the movie tonight with my family (parents included). I'm tempted to see it again, this Tuesday.

After comix-to-screen flops like the last 3 Batman movies, Roger Corman's Fantastic Four, the last two Crow sequels, it was refreshing and hopeful to see another comic book hero (along with the X-Men and Blade) brought to the big screen in vivid color, action, acting, and true to the comic book's form.

Among the pleasant surprises I noticed cameos by Lucy Lawless, Bruce Campbell, the "guy with the funny hat" from Xena and Hercules (who played Mr. Jameson's assistant), and a few others who have worked with Sam Raimi in other movies. The Macho Man was also in the movie. That was cool.

Overall, I felt that the movie had fairly good acting, excellent special FX, an awesome story, and a frikkin' awesome soundtrack.
Wilem Defoe was outstanding, Tobey McGuire portrayed Peter Parker honestly, that Franco guy was OK, and Kirsten Dunst......well she was just hot! :)

Avi Arad from Marvel has gone on the record saying that this will not be the last comic book hero to be vividly portrayed on the big screen, with the next in line THE HULK (directed by John Woo) and Daredevil (starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner).

I give Spider-Man: The Movie a 5.

I give it a 4. For me, that's pretty damn good. I'm not usually a huge fan of the comics to movies films, but this was a good surprise. Like I mentioned in my other thread, Dunst's character was extremely well dressed for being broke off her a**. Maybe her rich boyfriend was buying Jimmy Choo's for her. Dunno. I liked the kiss scene at the end, but he totally should have hooked up with her. I almost cried when he walked away. ALMOST.

Definately a good date movie. :)

1. Hulk is by Ang Lee I thought?

2. I gave it a 4. Why? It was good. Damn good. But it had enough hiccups for me to not scream bloody murder. (also Batman Returns wasn't a flop!)

I think the Green Goblin costume needed work. It looked too plastic, too fake. The scene where Spidy is paralyzed and on the rooftop, it was just way too cheesy. It didn't fit.

Some of the dialogue needed work, some of the cuts seemed abrupt, and I wasn't a 100% fan of the additions, like Goblins death scene, how he said that line right before he dies.

Raimi, to me, took a 'serio' non comic approach, but then added those little quips in, and like the scene on the roof, it just didn't seem to fit.

Also, I felt the pacing of the first half was AWESOME, but the second half felt segmented. We didn't see any character developement, we just saw character change, if that makes sense. We saw the pivotal point for Peter Parker, but we never saw how he developed from realizing his 'great responsability' to a common crime fighter. We didn't see anything in terms of MJs torn emotions. She more came across as an easy chick that can't make up her mind.

I sound like I am griping, but really I just didn't want it to end. I wanted more spidy, I wanted more action, and I wanted more Dunst! :-)

I thought Defoe did and INCREDIBLE job...I mean fantastic...

Kids, you know...LOL Going soon, though... I usually go to a weekday matinee to pre-view movies my kids want to see...

Since Spidey and DD and Wolverine were always my CB heros... I can't wait to see ole DD... I think they could have picked better than Ben Affleck though...

D'OH! I stand corrected, again. I should've said the last two Batman movies.

Great critque, Manu! You really have some good points.

You guys will have to forgive me. It was late when I posted this thread and I still had stars in my eyes from just having seen it.

I will give my own "full" critique when I see it for the second time.

I give it a 4

The movie seemed to go by kinda quick, so I wished that it was longer. The Uncle Ben death scene was very tragic, my nephews were about to cry during that moment. I loved the cgi, you can really tell that the cgi team did their research in the comics for the swinging through the city scenes. Overall a great movie that I would love to see again.

The movie was GREAT...fantastic...definitly in my current list of must sees, and I agree with Scott, the CGI was PERFECT for a comic-to-screen movie, it gave my friend motion sickness tho...

But Dunst was awsome up until her very last monologue, which was bad. I broke out of the story line thinking about it and normally, when I'm into a movie, there's no snapping me out. But she said every line the same, and the monologue had two clear, concise conclusions. It was disappointing.

But the kisses....oh my gosh...I have a thing for Tobey Maguire now...he's so...wow...there was definitly passion there...

CANNOT wait for the sequel...
