OMAHA, Nebraska - Documenting a caffeine-powered quest to visit every Starbucks in the world has become the mission of a Nebraska attorney.

Bill Tangeman, 32, of Kearney, who was a journalist before going into law, is making a documentary film about a Houston native who goes by the name Winter, who set out in 1997 to get a caffeinated drink at every corporate-owned Starbucks store on the planet.

On his Web site (http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net) Winter, who was born Rafael Antonio Lozano, said that as of Aug. 8, he had visited 4,775 Starbucks in North America and 213 in other parts of world. Outside of North America, Winter has gone to Starbucks in Spain, England, France and Japan. There are 5,715 corporate-owned Starbucks in the world, according to the Seattle-based company's August newsletter on it Web site.

Winter said his trek has been satisfactory on many levels, not the least of which is that it has allowed him to be on a nearly constant road trip for eight years.

But having the incessant goal of reaching the next Starbucks provided another benefit.

"Every time I reach a Starbucks I feel like I've accomplished something," Winter said, "when actually I have accomplished nothing."

it's amazing what people will do for publicity....I mean, what's the point? Please, someone, tell me what is going on here....

Think of how many supermarkets he's going to have to go to.
Or malls. I was in a mall, and I thought I was going in circles because I passed Starbucks four times, but then somebody told me that there were actually four of them in the mall. Yuck.

I was in NYC and every half a block there was a starbucks. We just kept walking down the street because they became progressively cheaper. It was the first time I had ever gone to NYC and found something sold there for less than it is here.

And every 5 minutes a new one is opened. Good luck visiting them all.

i meant besides to make a film/documentary. what's his point? with starbucks spreading as fast as they are, it's not like he's even making a statement. Of course, maybe the journey is the statement....who knows....

Usually I applaud unusual feats by fellow Texans, but this one seems both silly and futile. At the rate that chain is opening new franchises, I reckon it to be an impossible task, one that would require incessant backtracking. Personally, I like Starbucks coffee, and appreciate the ambience of my favorite one in downtown Cowtown, as well as the music collections they put out, but a neverending quest to sip at them all has no value outside of an obsessive fixation.

i hear you dreamscapist....The logistics of this endeavor notwithstanding, I think it's a strange to devote one's life to visiting all units of a chain store. . . .It doesn't really matter which one it is. I guess a similar comparison in terms of popularity and abundance would be 7-11 or CVS. Whatever....

I'm thinking it would be safe to say he'll be visiting every Starbucks men's room on his journey.

Rating them all (perhaps on a blog?) might lend some added sense of purpose to his endeavor.

I don't understand why someone would pay over five dollars for a cup of coffee.

7/11 for me.

That's exactly what I was thinking. By the time he's made the rounds, 30 or 40 more will have opened and he'll have to start all over.
