View Full Version : What band did you see that was a huge disappointment?
KillZone 08-04-2005, 03:46 PM I was hyped, I was wired, I was ready to be entertained. Then, I was extremely disappointed by...
The Allman Brothers. They MUST have had technical problems. They were terrible.
Mr. Know It All 08-04-2005, 03:58 PM In the early 90s: alice in chains.
Loved the music at the time. However, the performance was mighty boring.
boedicca 08-04-2005, 04:22 PM Rolling Stones - Steel Wheel Tour. The sound system and mix were so terrible their set sounded like a bad AM car radio. It totally bit the big choda. I will never pay beaucoup bucks to see some aging rockers again.
Gibson 08-04-2005, 04:23 PM POD sucked live when I saw them at ozzfest :P
colonel 08-04-2005, 04:33 PM Back in the 70's I went to an Electric Light Orchestra concert and the opening act was Meatloaf. I was really looking forward to it because "Bat Outta Hell" had recently been released and I loved that album.
Sadly, the big fella couldn't stay in key to save his life. :P
In the early 80's I went to an outdoor Bowie concert in Brisbane, Australia and was sorely disappointed because the City Council forced him to play at a ridiculously low volume level. :not:
GROFF200 08-04-2005, 05:27 PM I saw Aerosmith play while touring for their Pump album.
It really sucked, because they were apparently filming footage for some videos, and therefore lip synced half the songs in their set.
Snouter 08-04-2005, 05:50 PM With the exception of their album Rocks, I can't stand Aerosmith. They can be blamed for tricking kids into thinking rap had any degree of cool with their horrible Walk This Way video with Run DMC.
U2 at Yankee Stadium sucked.
Twisted Sister at The Night Owl (a local bar now a Burger King I think) sucked.
EricDraven 08-04-2005, 06:06 PM The Who. It was right after John Entwhistle died. They decided to continue with their tour. It was at the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park. I forget the song they were playing, I was just so disappointed I didn't want to remember, but they played through half of it and I guess messed it up. So they stopped the song and started it over. I was like, no freakin way. You are professionals, you've been doing this for how long. I couldn't believe it, although like I said John Entwhistle had just died. :hmm:
CowPunk 08-04-2005, 07:34 PM My first concert was Jimi Hendrix in '69 at age 10 and - despite the fact that he's probably my favorite overall musician - he blew. Couldn't play worth ****.
I think he was out of his mind on drugs, and he died not long afterwards. :(
beatlebabe 08-04-2005, 07:43 PM I saw Metallica in 1991. They were obviously bored, and wishing to be elsewhere. No energy in the performance, there was no interaction at all with the audience, missed notes all over the place & the sound quality was sorely lacking :not:
RyanEbelhar 08-04-2005, 09:08 PM Tool. They didn't move for 2 hours, just stood perfectly still. and at one point they all just sat on stage for 10 minutes while two contortionists spun around on ropes. so freaking boring
No_Brakes 08-04-2005, 09:27 PM The Black Crowes, when they headlined the Furthur Fest in Queens (at what is now known as Arthur Ashe Stadium).
I love those guys, but there definitely were some sound issues during their set that I don't recall having happened to anyone else who performed at that show.
Oberon 08-06-2005, 02:11 AM Janis Joplin. She had to have had one of the worst bands in history, and her singing wasn't good at all. Rock is littered with bands who can't play worth squat live, one of the reasons blues, jazz, and rockabilly are still popular. I don't think the Stones were ever any good live after 1970, at least I never heard any good stuff on their live albums. I certainly would never pay to see them.

U2 at Yankee Stadium sucked.
Twisted Sister at The Night Owl (a local bar now a Burger King I think) sucked. lol you went to twisted sister?
Smashing Young Man 08-06-2005, 06:46 PM Soundgarden - They were a bunch of stiffs onstage. I can stare at a poster of them on my wall while listening to their music with much the same effect as seeing them live. Of course, they're now defunct, so it is beside the point.
Black Sabbath - Cool to see them live, but watching Ozzy shuffle around stage was sort of sad.
Def Tones - Not their fault, I think. The sound guy had the low end turned down to nothing.
Rage Against the Machine - Their music rocked, and they were highly entertaining to watch. Zach's childish political ranting between songs was eyeroll-inducing, however.
Slayer - Actually, they kicked ass. However, the lead singer was so humble and polite between songs that it was incongruous. After a ripping song about Hell and Satan with thrashing guitars and glass-gargling vocals, the singer would nod his head and say in a quiet humble voice between every song, "Thank you, thank you."
Tesla - They were just pissing around on stage, not taking things seriously at all.
Ironweed 08-07-2005, 09:03 AM I saw REM as the opening act for The Police in 1983, just after Murmur had come out. They were absolutely horrible, and I can still remember how blown away I was by Murmur the first time I heard it.
Janis Joplin. She had to have had one of the worst bands in history, and her singing wasn't good at all. Rock is littered with bands who can't play worth squat live, one of the reasons blues, jazz, and rockabilly are still popular.
I'm not doubting you since Ms. Joplin had croaked by the time I six or so, but I'd have to put the live version of Ball and Chain down as one of my favorite live songs of all time. Possibly it was saved via engineering, but damn does that song seem to have an energy all its own.
chemical brothers were very disappointing, didnt interact with the audience at all, the amount of spacy breaks in the songs drove eveybody nuts, upto a point when they started booing... in responce, they did about 15 more breaks like that.
Bear Stories 08-07-2005, 05:53 PM Bruce at the Silverdome. Our seats sucked and there must have been some sound issues going on because he just didn't sound at all like he should have. And I gave up BB King to see Bruce. Bad decision.
CowPunk 08-07-2005, 06:54 PM I saw REM as the opening act for The Police in 1983, just after Murmur had come out. They were absolutely horrible, and I can still remember how blown away I was by Murmur the first time I heard it.
- Michael S. and Buck are very open about their lack of performance skills and stage chops in their first years of touring, and in fact were even so when we toured with them at that time.

We? Wait a minute, who, what, where, when? Who is we? Just who are you, Mr. CowPunk, if that is your real name?
(this would all be so much more effective if I had you in a little windowless room with a big, bright light shining in your face.....)

He is a professional musician ... but you'll need more than a bright light in his face to get him to talk
The worst show I ever saw was Aerosmith at an outdoor amphitheater ... the sound was horrific ... more like a chainsaw through sheetmetal than music

Okay, they're called boobs. ;)
No_Brakes 08-07-2005, 10:01 PM Bear, you wicked, wicked woman you!!!!!
(Beat me to it again, didn't ya!? ;) )

I'm not wicked, I'm just in search of information.......
(bonus points to whomever can tell me what television show that's from.)

No telling how many recordings of it got rejected. They got lucky sometimes, or Janis just powered through songs in spite of them. It was one of the more notorious musical talent mismatches of all time. I do like that song, though, one of her best.
TheNatural 08-08-2005, 02:24 PM i saw black eyed peas at Street Scene in San Diego last weekend and that was a pretty big disappointment....They false-started 3 times (Will.i.am getting the crowd hyped for the rest of the group to come out each time and then just stopping) and when they finally came out an hour late, played 5 songs.
word on the street is they were getting their drink on backstage too. which would be wack if true....
bopst 08-11-2005, 05:41 PM The Cars (1984) were by far the most boring band I have ever seen. I've seen more life in grave yards.
Prince (2000) robbed me of 150 clams(2 tickets) at the MCI in DC. Talk about your pompous jamming.
and the Misfits the first time around sucked and sucked badly....
TheNatural 08-12-2005, 09:38 AM prince didn't put on a good show at MCI Center? That was an expensive ticket!! I heard at least they gave out his Musicology cd, not that that was probably any consolation....I've never seen prince, but wish i had seen him back in the 80s, even if I was a youngn then...
SecretSamadhi 08-12-2005, 09:41 AM The Allman Brothers - I saw them recently for the first time. And when someone asked how they were I said 'It was better than watching me!' , right Dawn? :p
They sucked. :not:
bopst 08-12-2005, 11:20 AM Yeah, Prince sucked it up pretty badly. All he did was half assed jams and pitiful medleys. My girlfriend (now my wife) broke out in tears (no feces) it was so bad and she's loved Prince since Purple Rain. It was truly a pompous display of musical narcissism....
TheNatural 08-15-2005, 05:10 PM That's terrible news about Prince man. He has so much musical talent. For him to perform and perform poorly is just awful for fans -- not even taking into account the ticket price!
have you seen anyone else at MCI? It gets its fair share of big names....
