I'm not a huge Stones fan - I've heard that you either like the Stones or the Beatles, I'm Beatles girl. But I would say Paint it Black.

Monkey Man

Too bad "Cocksucker Blues" never got released.
The were obligated to do one more single for (I think) London after they'd left for a new record co. So they recorded a song titled that to fulfill their contractual obligation. Apparently it was pretty, umm, detailed. :p

Monkey Man

That is one of my favs also; great guitar riffs and very raunchy lyrics. That and the live version of Sympathy on the Get Yer Ya Ya's out album are my favorites.

They have some other lessor known classics from the psychedelic days like Sway, Sister Morphine, and Memo From Turner.

Tough question and good question. I prefer their earlier music (say, about pre-1978).

Since I prefer their earlier music, I’ll go with Happy, from the Exile on Main Street album (1972). Tomorrow, I might pick Gimme Shelter or Street Fighting Man.

I saw them at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in 1975 or 1976 (can't remember which), and I really enjoyed them. :)

No question, Honky Tonky Woman.

Honourable mentions go to: Gimme Shelter, Tumblin' Dice and Sympathy for the Devil.

And here's how conceited I am; I see CP's post right after mine and I think that it was me that inspired that "Bitch".

Time Is On My Side , Heart Of Stone, Paint It Black, Wild Horses, many others; they put out so much work it just depends on what mood I'm in. If it's on the High Tides, Green Grass album I probably liked it as a 'favorite' at one time or another.

They put out an amazing body of crap to go along with their amazing body of decent stuff. I consider the majority of their stuff to be just plain bad, but as I said they put out so much, they have a large body of good stuff floating around.

and you cant forget "Miss You," cause that song is amazing. I just found an original copy of that single on vinly at Amoeba Records in San Francisco. Super excited.

some of their stuff isnt AMAZING, but i think the quantity of great songs they've put out is almost unrivaled....Seriously, think about it. maybe the beatles are close, but....

Beast of Burden.

Under My Thumb.

Brown Sugar.

Jumpin' Jack Flash.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "Satisfaction".

"Brown Sugar"

Satisfaction"

And if covers count too...

"It's All Over Now"

"Carol"

"Can I Get a Witness"

"Anybody Seen My Baby"

"Ain't Too Proud To Bag"

"King Bee"

"Rout 66"

...there's so many of them. In my opinion there's no band that's overall greater and historically more important than The Rolling Stones, besides The Beatles.

I just heard this Stones song i had never heard before. And it's awesome. It's called "Monkey Man" and the beat rocks hard. Im not sure it's on a Honky Tonk/Miss YOu/Gimme Shelter/Brown Sugar/Sympathy level, but it's pretty good....
