Alpha - Being Developed, code being tested.
Beta - Sorta-kinda done but still buggy as hell. Tested by a wide spread of people on a wide spread of different computers to work the bugs out
Final - Final released to public for sale

People like to get in on Betas because they're free to play the games. There's open betas which anyone can download to test and theres selected betas where only some are allowed to play.:nice: This also applies to things other than games. For instance, the new windows version goes closed beta this august.

WoW was open beta for VUG testers, it was sweet.

I'm buying my WoW acct. next week, probably. :D

And just fyi, what you consider "alpha" often consists of Pre-Alpha/Alpha/Beta for me. By the time something hits beta publicly, it will have passed its beta stage of QA testing.

Oh, yeah, the other reason I'm going WoW instead of EQ2 is because I get a discount since I work for Vivendi Universal Games, which owns Blizzard.

I get all PC game titles owned by VUG for $10 and all console games for $15.

My left wrist already pops when I move it because it's so stiff so much of the time. I'm really looking forward to being on a console/PC app next (which I hopefully will be).

In other news, VUGames is finalizing a process by which they will accept game submissions from us, the QA testers! :D :D :D

I've got three game ideas in my head, two of which I'm saving as they're MY GAMES. The ones I plan to make that will make me lots of money. The other one, however, is a Part 4 to a series that VUG owns already (Gabriel Knight). I'm going to draw up a concept doc for my idea over the next few weeks and submit it when it's done. No guarantees that they'll like it, of course, but it's a shot.

(Gabriel Knight) VU Bought Sierra?

Sierra was always a VUG company. Last year, though, the Sierra building was closed down due to downsizing and all Sierra titles and testing were transferred to VUG. We're using the Sierra label still, and will continue to do so, especially since our affiliation contract with Universal only extends for the next four years. After that, we'll either re-negotiate or become Vivendi Games, or Sierra/Vivendi, or something.
