View Full Version : My new guilty pleasure...Nelly Furtado.

I've recently come to admire a new singer, Nelly Furtado. She has a couple songs that are popular right now. "Turn Off the Light" and "On the Radio". She has a kind of sultry but sweet voice that I dig. It's not the same Brittany Spears kind of pop. I think it's pop that didn't want to be pop, and if she's lucky, some one will save her before she is all out, Christina Aguilara POP!!

I don't really like the way "On the Radio" is mixed. The beginning sounds like a mix between that Madonna song with the stuttering acoustic guitar riff and "Oops I tooted again". But, the talent and a semi-unique style are there.

Why am I guilty?? Because it's on MTV, and anything on there is usually poinonous and causes infertility in 8 of 10 laboratory hippopotamuses. I won't be telling my guitarist friends that I listen to her while singing along into my hair brush in the morning.

I dug her music for a while when the CD first came out. After I saw her perform during the Olympics I noticed the teeny-bopper that sang these great songs, and have sinced abandoned that guilty pleasure.

I liked her first song, "fly away" or whatever.. haven't cared for her too much since I saw some of her videos

But I do think she sounds nice

A friend of mine actually introduced her songs to me. I like her, she's smooth. I dig Fiona Apple's voice a tad more.

I know I'm one to talk ;) , but I can't get past her nasally-thin-whiney voice...

She does have a nice body ,but musically I can't stand her for two reasons.

One: She butchered my alltime favorite song ["Insatant Karma"] at the John Lennon tribute concert.

Two: Because of record company block voting she got the Grammy for Pop Feamale Vocalist ovet the much more deserving Luncinda Willimas [when that happend I said outloud "Is this a f-in' joke?"].

I agree SilverStreak ... I can not stand that thing she calls a voice ... I have heard her live and I was pretty sure my ears were going to bleed had I not chosen to get lost in the women's bathroom (went to find something to plug my ears with).
