View Full Version : Hawaii pics
Like I said, my friend Jenny finally sent me a cd of the Kona photos! :) Here are some them, mostly taken by Jenny (my digital camera kinda stopped working when I was in Hawaii), of our time at Youth with a Mission (University of the Nations), in Kona...
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona7.jpg
The tent you see to the left is where our class was held, for 3 months...as you can see, the campus is really nice, and it was a great place to take a class, with the ocean behind us, and surrounded by the natural beauty of Hawaii.

http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona1.jpg
Jenny (who was one of my roommates) and I... I think this was either the first day, or one of the first days of class.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona17.jpg
The first 45 min or hour of our day we had worship time... singing, etc... we usually either had a guest come by, like this guy, to play live, or we listened to music.
http://www.geocities.com/cindyc7900/kona81.txt
There were people in this class from all over the world, which was very cool. The man on the left is Korean and a college professor... the woman in the blue shirt is Carol, from the US, and behind her are some Norwegien couples... there were lots of Norwegiens in this class, as well as lots of Koreans, and other people from all over the world. In case you're wondering why there are a lot of older people at 'youth with a mission'.... the class I took was for people 25 and older.
So the ages ranged from 25 to about 70. :D And many families.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona8.jpg
This was our first speaker... he was one of my favorites, his week was mostly foundational stuff, but it excellent!
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona15.jpg
Some of my notes. :p
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona16.jpg
My roommate Tanya's journal. She was very artistic in her notetaking. ;)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65//kona9.jpg
One thing I love about Hawaii is that everything is colorful... the birds, butterflies, geckos, everything. :)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65//kona19.jpg
more in a bit! :)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona12.jpg
This was the street right on the ocean... which is literally right down the street from the campus. We used to go hang out at a place called Lava Java, to read, journal, or just hang out.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona11.jpg
My roommate Tanya at Lava Java. :)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona14.jpg
My roomate Diane, who is from LA...and is now in England.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona27.jpg
Ji-Hyun, one of my Korean roomates. There were 8 of us altogether, 3 Koreans, 2 Americans including myself, 1 Canadian, 1 from England and 1 from Singapore. 8 women and 1 bathroom. :D
I'll post more later. I'm gonna go have a late dinner now. :)
Malcolm Wright 07-21-2005, 02:19 AM I can't see most of them :(
M.
Here are some pics of a visit to the volcanoes... we didn't go where there was fresh lava, we went to see a big crater (caldera), but it was interesting!
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona51.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/tlr_cen/kona_volcano.txt
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona46.jpg
This is a crappy pic of me... but the other ones were even worse.. And guess who that is to my left? :D Alan (CCC) took a week vacation in Hawaii and he visited me when there... Five of us went to the volcanoes that day, Alan, Tanya, Jenny, Carrie and I.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona50.jpg
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona52.jpg
The 'caldera'... we had to hike a long ways, and uphill, to get there, (we had a good time though!) and then we walked all the way across the crater.
I can't see most of them :(
M.
Really? That's weird... it might be a geocities thing. Sometimes posting pics as a .txt is not that reliable. I could post them as attachments, but then there is a size limit!
Sorry! Let me know if they show up for you later. :)
I can't see most of them :(
M.
What he said.
augh! What should I do? I guess I could use photobucket, but they always make your pics smaller. They're showing up for me. Weird!
Ok, now some of them aren't showing up for me either. I think it's Geocities... maybe they're down for a moment or something. If it keeps doing that later, I'll upload them to somewhere else! :)
The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer.
Access to this site will be restored within an hour. Please try again later.
ok, i'll give it some time. if it does the same thing, i'll go to photobucket.
times like this i wish i had my own domain! :D
are any of them showing up for you, Alan?

All the ones in the latest post show up fine: its the first couple of posts that are mostly not working...
The ones I can see are beautiful!
M.
Thanks Malcolm! :) For me those are the ones that aren't showing up now... and just a few of the others are. I'll get this all sorted out, hopefully by later tonight or tomorrow sometime they'll be there!
RightWingZealot 07-21-2005, 09:53 AM This is a crappy pic of me
I think that was a very nice pic of you actualy.
made me a little sad. :|

Me either.

They'll work. My Geocities site goes down a lot too when I upload and rename a bunch of pics. Give it a few hours and they'll be fine.
Post #5 - the first four out of the five showed up for me this time (edit: now they don't again). The rest are still the same.
This is a crappy pic of me... but the other ones were even worse..
You know I'm not a very demanding person, but I insist you stop saying things like that, ya hear?
And guess who that is to my left? :D Alan (CCC)
You'll always look good next to that freak of nature. ;)
I heard he had a good time with good friends, so I shouldn't pick on him.
Terrapin 07-21-2005, 12:48 PM gorgeous Cindy!! :D:
Thanks you all! :) Now I can only see the volcano pics, and 2 of the earlier ones. Hmm, maybe I'll try clearing some stuff from my sites... I know my file manager is at 99%. But I have to get a new free site anyway, because I have more pics and no where to upload them...there's no room at any of my sites.
lub,
cindy
SecretSamadhi 07-21-2005, 03:02 PM I can't see!!
I just got another geocities site - maybe the problem was there was not enough space in the other sites? I dunno, but i'll transfer the pics over there, and hopefully they'll show up! Should be done later today. sorry, you all. :o :)

that sounds like a fine place to hang at :p
At least the page 2 pics were showing up :)
^ I knew you'd think so. ;)
Ok, Alan has offered to host the pics for me, so I've been emailing them to him. (thank you Alan!)
but now.... it appears that they ARE showing up! Hmm, well, maybe it's better anyway to just transfer them over, cause geocities seems to be unreliable lately.
Here are some pics from the day our class had a 'beach day', to Spencer Beach. All eighty-three of us, plus the people who had kids, so there were over 100.... and we went in a bunch of school busses. :D We had a great time, and there was a sand castle contest, food, etc.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona29.jpg
Jenny, on the bus. (yes, we stuck a fork in her hair)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona20.jpg
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona34.jpg
I was on the team that built this one. :p It was supposed to be the tower of Babel.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona22.jpg
Paul... a super nice guy from Korea. He was one of the few single guys in our class. So he was very popular. lol
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona33.jpg
Monica (she was on my missions team) standing next to the 'walls of Jericho' sand castle, after it came down.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona30.jpg
Noah's Ark sandcastle... this one didn't win, but it might've got 3rd or 4th place.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona31.jpg
Hand of God... (as you can see, the sandcastles all had a Biblical theme) :p

This one was the one that won first place. The pic doesn't do it justice, though!
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona25.jpg
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona18.jpg
This was another one of our speakers. He was great, and had some awesome stories... His topic was mainly compassion, and he has over 30 years experience doing missions work, he has worked with Southeast Asian refugees, the poor and AIDS patients. His week was one of our favorite weeks.
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona69.jpg
On this day we had to draw some diagrams and explain them to the class. This is Helene, a super cool girl from Norway.
http://www.geocities.com/cindyc7900/kona80.txt
This is Leslie, she was one of my roommates... she's from England and a very interesting person.
http://www.geocities.com/cindyc7900/kona109.txt
This is 'Ohana court'... a big meeting place, where we had all-school gatherings, twice a week. This particular photo is of the 'commissioning', or sending off people to do missions. I think the group that was up there near the stage, to be prayed for, was our class (half our class went to Phillipines and the other half to Malaysia.)
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona58.jpg
This was on a night where they had different performers, from different countries. This lady was (I think) in traditional Korean costume, doing a dance with fans. :)

Hmmmm
Alan scribbles note to self...
;)
lol, what are you scribbling? There were a couple ywam guys I had a crush on, but he wasn't one of them.
I love them!!!
Thanks Shell. :D For a while there I thought I killed my own thread. I have a few more I'll probably post later. :)
lol, what are you scribbling? There were a couple ywam guys I had a crush on, but he wasn't one of them.
Uh, that's he's sssssssssssexahhh... (KIDDING!)
Just noting that the ladies evidently like the single guys. Maybe I shoulda hung around longer. :D
(Naw, I shouldn't get my hopes up)
Uh, that's he's sssssssssssexahhh... (KIDDING!)
LOL!! aHA! :P
You should just take a DTS, in Kona! :) They don't have Crossroads anymore though, now they have a 'mega dts' which is multigenerational.
You should, if your dts was anything like my class, I guarantee you, it will be amazing and some of the best 3 months of your life!
I just wanted to say that I finally have DSL and the pictures on this thread loaded much faster. :w00t: :cooldance
Yay, I'm glad you finally got your new computer and dsl! :nice:
I have a few more pics, but i'm not sure if i'll post them. Maybe later. :)

I'll leave it up to you which ones you'd rather show. I hope you show some of your baptism pics :nice:
One thing that was great was that we had lots of parties... since there were a lot of people in our class, there was always birthdays, and we had tons of birthday parties.... usually surprise parties. Here are a few pics of some of the bday parties...
MiYoung's bday (she was on my missions team)

Carrie's bday
http://home.att.net/~alanmania65/kona45.jpg
The pic below is something the Koreans did...they sing a 'blessing song' (this one was to Carrie) They sing blessing songs sometimes on birthdays or whenever they want to bless someone, it's very cool! :D Alan can attest to that.

That's enough bday pics. :p
^
Darn housing shortage at your university. ;)
BTW, if I were to go, I'd have to do a spring DTS so I don't miss out on my birthday celebration. :D
EDIT: Your geocities is doing it again, cindy...
The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer
RedLine99 07-31-2005, 10:42 PM the little green lizard shot is tres cool! :nice:

Yeah, we had 8 to an apartment. Carrie's apt had 10!
And you should definitely do a DTS! :w00t:
oh, and yeah I noticed geocities is doing that again... some pics aren't showing up.
the little green lizard shot is tres cool! :nice:
I like that one too. :) I wish I had some pics of the geckos that were there. (lots of geckos indoors and out) They were a gorgeous shade of bright green, with a little orange/reddish spot on them. We actually saw some baby geckos hatch, when a kid gave one of my roomates gecko eggs. :p
Lovely Pics! :)
I am so envious!
Thanks Crim! Yeah, I want to go back... hopefully I will, to take another class there... school of digital filmmaking. :)
Yeah, we had 8 to an apartment. Carrie's apt had 10!
You left off the most important part... you only had ONE bathroom :D
True. It was actually amazing that it worked out.... because at first we were wondering how in the world are we going to have 8 girls and one bathroom, when we all have to be somewhere at the same time? :p
But we did it, somehow. :) A couple people were earlybirds and there were a few of us that got up later. But I really think it was God giving us grace, we all agreed that that must've been how we lived together in close quarters and for the most part it went well and we became like sisters!
A few more pics... these are of my water baptism, that I'm finally getting around to posting. Btw this took place right before I left to Malaysia, which was about 4 1/2 years after becoming a Christian... but hey, better late than never! :D
The first one is of Ben (a really good guy who was in my class, and who is also a pastor... he's the one who did the baptism for me) and me.... This took place at the Royal Kona hotel swimming pool... and a few of my roommates were there to witness it, and a couple other friends. It was awesome. :) In this pic he is making sure I know what water baptism really means, and he went over a few scriptures on it. I'll post the rest in the next reply.
The quality of these is pretty bad, because they were taken from a video clip. Here are a few shots. I cut off some of them, cause I was drenched and I looked like a drowned rat. :o
*sigh* they're not showing up again. I'll transfer them to photobucket and post them later.

Cool
I can delete those baptism pics on my space you're not using
Snouter 08-22-2005, 06:24 PM Looks like a great trip buttercup. :)
It was, thanks Snouter!
I might be going back, this September... and if so, it will be for a while, maybe over a year. Not for sure yet, but I'll be finding out within the next few weeks. :)
Alan - sure, you can delete those pics since I didn't use them!

:D Yep! Thankfully the water wasn't too cold and of course Hawaii is nice and warm. It was a beautiful day, and right before sundown. I was touched that my roommate got in the water to help with the baptism, getting herself half dunked!
Terrapin 08-23-2005, 08:53 AM those pics make me want to go to Hawaii now:D

You're right... I'll still have both my kidneys.

You guys should definitely go. :) My ex-boyfriend took me on a trip to Hawaii once (this was long time ago) and it was a blast and romantic. btw... I might be going back, in September to take a 9 month class. And possibly staying there for a while. So if you're going to go, you should make a stop in Kona, and come see me! :D But I would definitely recommend going to the other islands too... i'm not sure if you've been to Hawaii already or not. Let me know! I'm not 100% sure yet if I'll be going, but i'm gonna apply for this class, and i'll be finding out soon.
Oh, and Æ... it's not THAT expensive... I don't know if Suntrips is still around, but you can try to get one of those el cheapo package deals. Also as I'm sure you know, if you get your ticket way in advance, it's much cheaper. :D
Terrapin 08-24-2005, 08:54 PM tell him Cindy!..its not that expensive :nice:
:D You could save up a couple hundred bucks a month, and in a few months from now, there ya go! btw, I have a friend who works for expedia.com, and he is able to get free activities, (or cheap).... everything from snorkeling cruises, to Luaos, to helicopter rides, everything.... so if you go, let me know and I'll call my friend Brent. That right there should save some money, if it pans out! :p
