View Full Version : From Servants to Dictators
Pappy&Me 07-14-2005, 10:55 PM Our government use to serve the people who led them, now it's reversed .
I think I know how this came about , by comparing the past to the present we find the answer .
French writer , Alexis de Tocqueville
wrote of us in the 1800s....
I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her ample rivers, and it was not there ; in the fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there; in her rich mines and her vast world commerce, and it was not there . Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power .
America is great because Aamerica is good . If America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great .
[Amen]!!!
Abe Lincoln wrote ...,
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift . you cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong .You cannot strengthen the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer . You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred . Help poor by destroying rich . You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn . You cannot build courage and charactor by taking away a mans initiative and independence. You cannot help men permantly by doing for them what they could and should do for themelves .
Most famous leaders were people who 'gave' to their country ,now they only take . Most were involved in wars on the battlefield . Now if they join military at all it is only for personal career advancement . And then they are protected from harm by influance of family or friends in high places .
We the people don't vote for the same reasons we use to, we now vote for personal benefits, not whats good for our people as a whole . This is because we are not good citizens who have honor, patriotism or values . We use to bow to God as a majority, now we bow to ourselves .
fat mike 07-14-2005, 11:36 PM P&M,you said it yourself : deToqueville was writing about this country "in the 1800's" and Lincoln wasn't writing about the 21st century either,if those were supposed to be the"good ole days"why did your heroes find so much fault with them?
We have brave young men fighting and dying for their country working as soldiers and policemen and firemen etc. these days too. And BTW they're not all white...
Pappy&Me 07-14-2005, 11:39 PM Good post, who!
Thanks BC, but I'm just the messenger , great people wrote it .

You bet we have good men fighting for our country, good and honorable too, and I support them and all other vets 100% . This is not about the few, this is about the many ," our citizens " who no longer care for the few or even their own . Only for self and comfort . Morals ,values ,principles and self respect never go out of style !
And by the way ,you can't use race on me , becuse I probly did more for the minority than you will ever do . And speaking of soldiers one certain middle-aged soldier who died over-there just so happen to be black, wonderful, brave and patriotic ! I cried for this man when I heard he was killed on top of his tank . He was on the way home, but stayed with his black, white, latino etc,, brothers .

I'm just a clerk working in a bus station, you're the one blowing her horn here,
you're putting down a lot of people based on what you see on TV?
I work with the American Public and they're almost all decent people, what gives you the right to pass judgement on everybody the way you do?
These kids are up against a very tough battle, how many people does it take to make e.g. a school unsafe, how many theives does it take to put a business under? It doesn't take many, but a bunch of judgemental people lumping everybody together isn't helping.Instead of worrying about whether the Evil will be damned why don't you reach out to the good?
Pappy&Me 07-15-2005, 12:08 AM I do reach out for the good, thats what I'm doing now is trying to shame people back into being good . But most lost shame to. I think the young people who are our future are being led astray and need real heros to teach them , not rich arrogant movie stars and atheletes, but real men and woman who will stand up and take risk for their childrens future . And tell them the truth .

PS, Makes no difference what you do as long as it's honest and you care for yourself and yours, your just as good as the best, and better than the rest .
fat mike 07-15-2005, 12:32 AM Well, maybe I was unnecessarily harsh,I agree the movie star thing is horrible,it's a crying shame the kids look up to these losers, but P&M I want YOU to see the kids are much better people than their heroes.I rub shoulders with them every day and I love them.

Thats good and I do see good in our young and some of our old too, we just need more . And of course I love young people some of all ages.
Sinclair 07-15-2005, 05:48 PM The federal government in the US, and I bet this extends to most every other government in the world, has both too little and too much power.
Too little power to properly regulate corporations, protect the environment, and protect the borders.
Too much power to **** people over.
Dr.Doom 07-15-2005, 05:59 PM I never thought we had any control over anything. Seems like this so called democray is just something they say to feed the illusion we are in control. Im loosing faith in voting why even vote anymore?

Voting local is very important . Going to local commish meetings are too . You'd be surprised how much one person can do to get a ball rolling . get other young people to go with you . This is what the people destroying your future and country do dfferent than the rest of us, they get involved . The sqeeky wheel gets the grease ,and this is a fact ! :nice:
Dr.Doom 07-15-2005, 06:27 PM I vote but it does nothing. Evidence is there. There was clearly more votes for kerry than bush even in polls ect but some how he managed to take it right? Thats besides thepoit though im over it. I really think it is more complex than that I dont beleive we live in a true democray where the people are in charge. things are going to get worse is going to run straight into the ground.

At least knowing you did what you could will make you feel you have some control, if only a little. It's better to try and lose than not do anything. they can take away alot ,but you have to surrender your efforts.
