Rove Refusing Interviews on Plame Leak

NEW YORK Two days after his lawyer confirmed that his name turned up as a source in Matthew Cooper's notes on the Valerie Plame/CIA case, top White House adviser Karl Rove refused to answer questions about the development today.

Rove travelled with President Bush when he spoke at a July 4 event in Wesat Virginia today, but refused all requests for interviews about his role in the controversy that threatens to send Cooper, of Time magazine, and Judith Miller of The New York Times to jail this week for refusing to reveal sources.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had called on Rove to clear the air on Sunday. "We've heard it from his lawyer, but it would be nice to hear it directly from Mr. Rove that he didn't leak the identity of Valerie Plame, and that he didn't direct anyone else to do such a dastardly thing," said Schumer.
[I can't imagine why...(heh-heh). Chuck Schumer had the right idea. Time to call your Senators (both parties) and tell them that Rove can clear up this whole flap by answering a few simple questions (heh-heh).] :|

I don't really see the point though, all he'll do is deny any involvement. We need the investigators to find out exactly who it is and to bring him up on charges, I don't see who else it could be besides Rove.

"On the CBS show "Face the Nation," Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV confirmed that he had heard that Karl Rove said "that my wife is 'fair game.'"

Columnist Robert Novak, a longtime Republican 'journo-lackey,' wrote about the Bush White House leak in a column, which named Wilson's wife as a covert CIA agent named Valerie Plame.

It should be noted that Wilson himself received a commendation from President George Herbert Walker Bush during his service at the State Department as Ambassador

Though he does not believe that President George Bush Jr. condoned the exposure of his wife, Wilson blames the Bush White House and the president's Svengali-like political advisor Karl Rove.

Wilson is best known for his off the cuff remark that Rove should be "frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs," if responsible for the leak."

For some reason Novak seems to be above the law, Cooper and Miller are facing jailtime. Miller is a propagandist so to hell with her, but the precedent of forcing journalists to reveal their sources is very troubling.

Nothing will happen to Rove, even if he was imprisoned Bush would pardon him.

What has consistently struck me throughout the tenure of the BA is the total lack of any seeming capacity to reflect on their actions, or view any questioning of their philosophies as legitimate. The Greeks had a word for this mind set. They called it hubris. I think Bushco. is rank with the odor of false pride. It is the type of false pride that sends a nation into a war of choice, and refuses to acknowledge any error in planning. It is the type of hubris which will continue to produce debacles, because its actions flow from a wellspring of ignorance, not the wisdom that comes from the capacity to be contrite, and change course in the face of stark reality.

If there is any justice, the Humpty Dumpty of this administration will topple under the weight of his own conceit. It is wonderful that the cracks begin to appear in the wall during the week of this great nation's independence.
