Investigators to eye race among motives (http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/07/04/twin_brothers_held_in_ayer_slaying/)
Daniel and Peter McGuane, both 21 and Ayer residents, were charged with manslaughter in the attack that killed Kelly Proctor, a former football star at Nashoba Valley Technical High School. Bail was set at $500,000 cash apiece, according to the district attorney's office.
Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley said before the arrests that Ayer and state police were investigating the possibility that the attack was racially motivated, among other motives. Proctor is black, and the McGuane brothers are white. But Coakley said it was too soon to draw conclusions.
Some of Proctor's friends and relatives said they feared he was targeted because of his race, but others were unsure.
Saturday night started out like any other Fourth of July celebration. Proctor and his girlfriend, who is white, watched the annual fireworks display and left when it was over, just before 10 p.m.Wow, I just love how the media has gotten so thorough and balanced with their reporting these days :eek3:
