View Full Version : Former President Clinton offers Social Security advice
LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Legalizing more immigrants would help bolster the Social Security system, former President Bill Clinton told the nation's largest Hispanic-rights organization Friday.
"Those of you who want immigration reform should use Social Security more," Clinton said to about 1,300 members of the League of United Latin American Citizens. "If we legalize just 250,000 more immigrants a year, it would solve half of the shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund."
More legalized immigrants would put more young people in the system to help support the deluge of baby boomer retirees, Clinton said.

Betrade 07-02-2005, 04:34 PM That's the dumbest plan I've heard from the left yet, and the ONLY one as well.
To use the shortfall as an excuse to put illegals on the fast track to citizenship would only create more illegals, because it would create an incentive for more of them to risk crossing the border. There are already way too many illegals on public assistance as it is, and creating more will only exacerbate the overall problem.
Geez....where was all this wisdom when he was actually PRESIDENT! I dont' remember HIM making any real headway in this area during his administration time either. It's easy to be an armchair quarterback or backseat driver......

Exactly. And who do you think they'll be voting for? Hence the call to have them 'legalized'.

wow
At best it delays collapse of the system.
boedicca 07-02-2005, 06:09 PM Bill Clinton provides yet more evidence that he is a pragmatic, unprincipled, flaming pile of excrement.

President Bush wanted to legalize something like 3 million illegals. Tom Ridge wanted to legalize more. :not:

So what does that make your fair-haired boy Bo ? ;)
Snouter 07-02-2005, 11:10 PM "If we legalize just 250,000 more immigrants a year, it would solve half of the shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund."
That is insane. If we redirect the billions of dollars going to foreign countries back to the USA, there would be no shortfall for the taxpayers who paid into that bogus "fund."
boedicca 07-03-2005, 11:34 AM He's not my fair haired boy. I just prefer him to either Gore or Kerry.
Bush proposed a guest worker program in order to enable seasonal workers to move across the borders with proper ID. It makes sense to have such a program in order to reduce the amount of illegals coming from Latin America - enabling resources to be focused upon potential terrorists using those routes.
You want it both ways: to castigate Bush for the weaknesses in our borders, yet to critcize any measures which address the problem.
flaming_liberal 07-03-2005, 11:42 AM I don't see the two as being mutually exclusive. If his measures for addressing the weaknesses in our borders suck, then they suck. Pointing out that he sets low standards and consistently fails to achieve them is mutually exclusive how?
We want good ideas, not just any idea. Let's not settle for less here, Bo. Shoot the moon, not the dirt.
nothigh88 07-03-2005, 03:44 PM I probably don't know what I'm talking about but if you allow more people to become citizens then somebody has to pay for it when they retire....So you would have to bring in even more people later on......It's like a chain reaction..
