I was thinking of trying a version of You Shook Me based on the one Jeff Beck did on the Truth album. It is a much sloppier version than Led Zeppelin's masterpiece on LZ I, and therefore much easier.

I wanna do that one...don't know which song though...I might take it from a recording of one of my shows, no overdubs or anything, just plain live.

However, I need to find a way to put the file on the web.

Any suggestions?

Nice job on the original piece RedLine! I like the vocal melody at around 3:15 it sounds like "show me the door."

oki, that was pretty neat little version; nice touch with the acoustic and harmonica.

I have decided to try to do a simplified version of the Led Zeppelin version of You Shook Me, still working on it though.

Last night I went to my friend's house (who is a very good singer-guitarist too), and decided to record an old Jimmy Reed classic "Baby What's Wrong With You" that was covered by great bands like The Animals and The Yardbirds.

I ended up singing and playing all instruments (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano and bass) besides the drums which was played by my friend (he's not really a drummer but since he can still play better than me, I let him do that).

So I will be sending it to RedLine99 today.

Let me know what you think.

in the ganjafreebird folder baby whats wrong with you

hopefully yahoo doesn't freak...i still think you should open a soundclick account..its free! :D

it sounds like "show me the door."
lol..yeah :p i messed with the vocal effects to much and decided to just leave it since the whole progreesion was so screwy. thanks, man!

oki, cool job on yours...the harmonica really gives it that old time rythm :nice:

Excellent job GanjaFreebird! The vocals have a John Fogerty (CCR) vibe to them. Nice, clean piano work, tasteful electric guitar fills throughout and nice a acoustic and electric solo before the final verse.

redline, cool song, sort of reaggea blues, with that rythm...did yoiu use fruity loops? I have that too now. and cool edit pro. havent really figured out how to use them though.
ganja, nice work. you have a lot of guitar skill, and keys too. and your drummer did pretty good too, I think, the changes keep it interesting.

For the exercise of it, the main guitar is done using a slide on the ring finger. I managed to get the slide off just before the guitar solo.

The vocal attempts reflect the application of echo after they were recorded which lowered the volume for some reason so I had to increase the volume to the max just to get it to where it was before the effect.

Howdy. I missed the last couple of GC's (exams) but I'm back!

RedLine- Nice guitar work, its very exciting towards the end, but I feel the drums could be a bit more energetic towards the end, as they almost hold the whole song back, but those guitars are having none of it.

Oki- Great fun, the guitar is top quality. I like how it hasn't got any drums, but doesn't need any. The harmonica sounds very raw and cool.

GanjaFreeBird- This is great stuff. I am loving the piano. There's a very professional feel to it. It will stand up to repeat listenings.

Snouter- Heavy, heavy guitar riff at the start. Me likey. (The weirdest thing is happening with my mouse on your page (the quicktime one with the mp3): I can't see it!) I like the darkness of this track. I think the vocals are a little bit too quiet- they could do with some tweaking to make them stand out more. Maybe compression, I'm not very good with things like that though.

Welcome back Tom. Thanks for checking out everyone's songs including mine. I will try to mess with the volume of the vocal track again, but it still won't help being me being off key though. :p I attempted a few Plant-inspired screams but could not quite hit relevent notes when the melody was that B an octave up from the where the song starts.

It is like this in E: You (B) Know (D) You (E) Shook (G) Me (E) Ba (D) by (E)

You (B) Shook (D) Me (E) All (G) Night (E) Long (D then decend)

Then when the blues progresssion progresses to B the melody moves up an octave briefly starting at the next higher B.

Just to add, I was thinking in terms of the Page/Plant "call and response" that they did on their version at the very end when I did mine which turned out to be just two tracks of calls and no reponse. :p

cool version snouter, I like the voice-guitar doubling you did. I allmost did that song for the led zeppelin GB....

tomsk- thanks. actually, the guitar Ledbelly plays is a bit more complicated, I did the melody of the intro/breaks on the A snare, but he did it on 2 higher snares, which didnt seem possible to me... (with my skills, that is..)
the harmonica has some overdrive and is done through a bullet mike.

Thanks oki. I just redid the vocals. Not sure if the are better, but they are louder. :p I applied echo via Amplitude software to the last word of the main vocal phrases.

wow! l like this version much better, Snouter :nice: it's got a nice tight feel to it..my only complaint is you still tend to stay around the same neighborhood with your solos...bring it down occaisionally..us that E A D string! it'll help bring out your vocals. this might be your best one yet!

Tomsk, thanks for listening..your right, i should probably do something with the drums at the end of my jam...drums...hmmm.. :D

oki, if you had any idea how popular reggae is in this area..i could get myself booked every night :D
