I'll tell you all a freaky story that happened to me. One night I was sleeping laying on my stomach... then, I found myself awake, but not really. In the distance I could here the talk radio I had on, it was like forever away very hazy like a dream.... also heard my dog Kai in the distance snoring away. Anyway, I realized I was awake and I tried to move.... but couldn't. I was laying like... my head on my pillow turned to the left both arms above my head.. I could see my left arm and I tried to move it but it wouldn't budge.... my breathing was very shallow as well, I was in a bit of a panic...suddenly I hear this like weird buzzing noise.... it's not like something far away it was like right there.. then I felt this preasure on me... like something was pushing me but I didn't notice any hands... just preasure.... then suddenly it just stopped. I don't know exactly what happened.... it's freaky. Anyway... just thought I'd share that with you all.

Oh and it has happened more than once!

Sounds like a body memory. They can be scary. If you're having recurring nightmares, your mind's trying to tell you something. Consider hypnosis.

Wow.. I remember that happening to me a lot when I was like 9 ; it's scary.. you feel paralized and almost like squished.. like there is a matress or something on top of you.. hard to explain but I know exactly what you mean... I don't know what it's called when that happends.

Kymra, PM if you'd like!

Mimi, yes, and it's funny I mentioned that I could here my radio off in the distance... and my dog Kai snoring in the distance. The thing is although they sounded faaar away, my dog Kai (he's my pit bull) sleeps on my bed so he he was right by me! And my radio was on a little table right next to me! After I came "out of it".. Kai's snoring got louder and the radio got a little louder.

I did some research and was reading about sleep paralyses and Lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming (http://www.lucidity.com/LucidDreamingFAQ2.html)

Sleep Paralyses (http://www.here-be-dreams.com/sleep/paralysis.html)

Of course that gives me a different perspective, but I really don't think it's merely any of those. I mean it's something much different, it's very weird and it's not just being frozen... you honestly feel something pushing you... but your body feels light though... that's one thing I should have pointed out... you feel like you could float away... like something is happening inside you... but you at the same time feel something pusing onto you... and you hear things. Also, I'm not talking about your whole body feeling weighed down, I'm talking like hands in a paticular area, you don't feel "hands"... but you feel something two seperate things pushing you... and it's weird...

Oh, yeah, sleep paralysis. This is one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me. I've had it four times.

Twice, I was just paralysed.

The two other times I started to hallucinate. The one time I hallucinated a guy walking back and forth bouncing a basketball.

The other time I hallucinated, I was being held down to the bed by one guy, who chuckling obnoxiously in my ear, while his pal, paced back and forth waiting for something. This went on for maybe half a minute, then they both just vanished, and I was awake and could move again.
-----------
When you fall asleep, he balance of neurotransmitters in your brainstem shifts in a major way so that your voluntary muscle control is turned off. The reason for that is so we don't act out our dreams when we dream. If we did, we'd all be sleepwalking and probably falling down stairs, walking into walls, all that kind of dangerous stuff.

Once in a great while a person wakes almost completely up, but the neurotransmitters that allow muscle movement don't shift back into play. You lie there, paralyzed, aware of where you are, even able to open your eyes and see, but unable to move. Since you're not exactly completely awake, sometimes people, like me, also hallucinate, or dream up, sinister characters to account for why you can't move.

I will PM you :nice:

Great article.... I joined a dream journal site because I recently realized what lucid dreaming is, and that I've been doing it for quite sometime. Apparently flying is a common one ( which I have almost every night - but I know its cause I'm in my dream that I can....its weird.) I also had OBE's while lucid daydreaming as a child. Having an 'overhyper' creative side I would imagine so intently that I'd be gone... then I'd kind of snap back into 'myself' - but when I did I was scared - I had no idea who I was or where I'd been..
Once I grew up and the other things take over (ego, society, etc..) - it stopped happening except during actual sleep.

I've had something like this happen, though it was long ago.

I actually saw a white light (no kidding) and I would have sworn I was dying. I could not move a muscle and I was trying so hard. I remember feeling like I was going to die (obviously, I didn't).

It is petrifying ... I really feel for you~
