At 2:42 P.M. Sunday, 12 June, Fort Collins dispatch sent out an alert: "Teenagers joyriding in a stolen FCPD (Fort Collins Police Department) car now headed towards Loveland."
Officers mobilized, but minutes later, another message clarified the situation: "Just an off-duty FCPD officer that looked like a teenager driving a cruiser. All units standing down and canceling."
