View Full Version : Pentagon Report Details Quran Abuses

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday released new details about mishandling of the Quran at the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects, confirming that a soldier deliberately kicked the Muslim holy book and that an interrogator stepped on a Quran and was later fired for “a pattern of unacceptable behavior.”
In other confirmed incidents, water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet; a guard’s urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran; and in a confirmed but ambiguous case, a two-word obscenity was written in English on the inside cover of a Quran.
The findings, released after normal business hours Friday evening, are among the results of an investigation last month by Brig. Gen. Jay Hood, the commander of the detention center in Cuba, that was triggered by a Newsweek magazine report — later retracted — that a U.S. soldier had flushed one Guantanamo Bay detainee’s Quran down a toilet.
Okay, so "Newsweek lied and people died", but now maybe Newsweek isn't such a big fat liar after all?
yes, they did lie, they claimed one was ripped up and flushed down a toilet.
Bear Stories 06-04-2005, 10:38 AM I was speaking more of the general tone of the report of abuses of the Quran.
Admitedly, we will probably never know the precise details of what has and has not gone on in Gitmo, but the irony of this report saying, "well, yeah, there have been some abuses, (but only a couple of times and only by people that we've already gotten rid of), coming just weeks after such a big sh*t storm about the Newsweek article, ('cause they lied! They lied! None of it was true! We have nothing but respect for the Quran!), isn't lost on me, nor you, I suspect.
Betty 06-04-2005, 11:24 AM **** the quran.
The islamo-fascists nut jobs over there are disgracing the book with their actions anyway.
Java_man 06-04-2005, 12:14 PM In the official report they said one got urinated on ... pretty much comparable with flushing one ... so lets go kill the messenger !
seems the guard was punished accordingly. looks like the US is taking this as a serious matter.
In the most recent confirmed case, Hood said a detainee complained on March 25, 2005, of urine splashing on him and his Quran. An unidentified guard admitted at the time that “he was at fault,” the Hood report said, although it did not say whether the act was deliberate. The guard’s supervisor reprimanded him and assigned him to gate guard duty, where he had no contact with detainees for the remainder of his assignment at Guantanamo Bay.

Well, it should ...
86Dude 06-06-2005, 07:55 PM Why the hell does anyone pretend to care about the useless book of satanic lies? Hell, the Pentagon ought to be giving those guys a promotion.

Okay, so "Newsweek lied and people died", but now maybe Newsweek isn't such a big fat liar after all?
That's a bit of a stretch. Consider:
- The only reason the prisoners had Korans is that the U.S. gave them to them. Contrast that with how Bibles are burned in Islamic countries - and how prisoners are beheaded instead of being given Bibles.
- Out of tens of thousands of interrogations involving hundreds of prisoners, only a dozen were considered serious enough for deeper investigations. Of these, 5 were valid (but two of these appeared to be accidents).
- What were these atrocities involving the Koran? A couple of women interrogators dared to actually interrogate prisoners and touched a Koran. Men didn't hold the Koran with both hands. The incident involving urine was due to wind which blew a stream of piss so that it went down a pipe to the floor below.
- AQ instructs recruits to make false accusations against the U.S. if they are ever captured. It is part of their PR strategy.
The moral relativism is staggering.
Bear Stories 06-06-2005, 08:08 PM Oh, sure it's a stretch. As I said in my next post, it was more in the general tone of the abuses that might or might not be going on at Gitmo. (I can just never resist making fun of the phrase, "Newsweek Lied and People Died", if I can.)
And the atrocities involving the Quran, (documented in the Pentagon report), are beyond just having a woman touch them. Read the report.
Look, we might never know exactly what might have gone on, or not gone on at Gitmo. The whole setup is designed so that we, as the American Public might never know what goes on behind closed doors.
My big concern with this whole thing is that, every time a report like this surfaces, (and c'mon boedicca, even you have got to get a chuckle out of the irony of this report breaking just weeks after the Newsweek debacle), we lose the moral high ground. If there are any instances that come to light where we might look like thugs, we defeate our whole purpose.
