Is it common for networking responsibles to leave JavaScript disabled for employees?

Javascript? Not really. Active X, sometimes.

That was quick! :) thanks, and I suppose it's great I don't know anything about active X.

I'm asking because I'm making a fancy website for a company that develops electronics for bigger companies. I don't suppose they'd disable macromedia Flash?

I think its possible to use Flash for malicious purposes.
They may disable for bandwidth reasons even if not for security ones.

our IT guys haven't disabled, they just haven't installed Sun Java console or Flash :(

much less, any up to date codecs or windows updates

I agree with Kraw. Being that microsoft is no longer supporting their own virtual machine, you have to install Sun Microsystems' runtime environment in order to support it.

I detest javascript :P

But sun java is for java, isn't it? not for JavaScript. I thought all browsers had buildt in JavaScript compatibility....

I have to use JavaScript to calculate out a value to make my css layout work in IE - FF, of course, doesn't need it - I've just re-remembered why I hate IE.

Yes Javascript is not Java and most browsers understand Javascript (and can disable support for it from the browser).

Also, most OEMs now come with the Java Console installed. I include it as part of all of my images...flash too.

Flash/Java in a corporate environment I'd be more weary of than JS.
