Four years and a half. After we reached 4 years, I got a scholarship to France... wanted to do a Master here also, too much time to wait for him. Was damn glad, too, I was too chicken sh!t to scared to be leaving him otherwise.

Met Delilah in August 1987.

In June 1990 she cut my hair.

May 1994 Philistines blinded me.

Its been pretty much downhill from then,

So you've had one bad experience, everyone has had atleast one. That's no reason to give up. Are you never going to go on a date for the rest of your life? You have to start somewhere unless you're okay with being alone for the next 50, 60, 70 years or so.

I met my soon to be ex-husband in 1990.

We had a good relationship for many years, but everything went to hell after his business failed in the aftermath of the dotcom crash and 9/11. We are friends and the split is amicable - but it is time for each of us to get on with our lives.

I was married to F*ckerSh*t for over 10 years....but most of it had nothing to do with a 'relationship'. It was more of a legal ball and chain.

Then I was in a relationship for over 2 years.

Then I decided to become queen of the 3 dates maximum. Keeps life more simple.

Met him in March 1993.

Married him in June 1995.

Divorced him in December 1999.

We stayed together for the kids, I didn't want to be a single mom, etc. etc. At one point we loved each other, but the last few years was pretty much a bust. We would've possibly split sooner, but then I got pregnant with our daughter, and the complications from that....no time to think of divorce.

3 years. We lived together for over 2 years. I was the one who broke up, for a few reasons, but mainly because I realized he wasn't the one....there comes a point in a relationship that you either know you're going to marry the person, or that they're not right for you. But we stayed friends and last time I talked to him, the guy is doing super well...financially anyway. He's someone I know who has lived the American dream. But material things aren't important in the grand scheme of things.

ok, enough rambling. :P

Simplicity sounds attractive. I may join you in the 3 date kingdom :D

I've been in the same relationship for most of my adult life (19 years): Mostly good, sometimes great, occasionally troubled, Hell at the end. I'm glad it's almost over.

I went out with Pat for 6 1/2 years, but a lot of that was at a distance because of a college, then he moved away to San Diego, and I didnt follow him. (that turned out to be quite telling)
On one hand, i'm sure i knew that we werent quite right for each other, and on the other hand, we were still in love with each other, and enjoying our time together, so that made it worth it. Love while the love is still there and all. It was a mutual breakup, we still talk, he's always welcomed here, but we arent right for each other.
We cant be what we want/need for each other, and we are really growing on our own right now.

Also, we were 17 when we first met! One of the hardest aspects in our relationship was learning to grow up as a couple, and just growing up as individuals into adults in our own right.

Loving someone and living with them by choice is hard and you live knowing that at anytime all the good times can be shattered or slowly crumble.
love is a choice we make and hell is along its path.
you can fall into a kind of love but the real stuff is when youv'e been through hell. There comes a time when the mad and the anger and everyother word you can boil up are so consuming you have to go, leave, "thats it done" but then you stay and you know the only reason you stayed was because you're married or loved.
You make choices and one of them can be to be happy.
If your car were running bad you make the decision to take it to a professional or spend all day fixing it, its the same with a marriage (curse words are the same if you do it yourself).
I've been married 20 years probably because we learned that the life decisions you make doing 100 mph with no brakes aren't the true perspective.

2 years was the longest for me, met in 1998 broke up in 2000. She was basicly all my firsts when it comes to relationships, sex, love. If I had been more mature and experiance think we still might be together, but from what I heard things work out for the best for her at least. I haven't had much luck and have become much more guarded when it comes to ladies, have a hard time opening up.

My honey and I have been together for 6 years now, our #6 wedding anniversary is in November. We met in Feb 99 and were engaged like two months later. We have rough patches, but making up seems to be the best part :D . We have built our relationship on a strict policy of "No Games" and "Absolute Honesty". We were fortunate to come to this agreement and feel the same way about relationships so it has been this way from the word go. We b*tch at eachother sometimes, but we aren't intentionally hurtful or anything. I figure it keeps the air clear so that problems don't build up. Eh, Works for us!

Just under 12 years of marriage with a 16 month run up from when we started going out. We met in september 1988, I didn't much like her then, she admits she wasn't likeable then either! She had a failed relationship and then I picked up the pieces when we started going out in December 2000. We married in April 2003 and yes, even with my memory I still remember the precise dates of first date, marriage and decree absolute...how romantic! ;) We have almost turned full circle. She was my first of all those usual milestones.

I love my daughter and son.

My longest was 23 months. But, the last 7 months was god awful!! He would blow me off, ignore me, make dates then not show up. The last straw was when my parents flew out to Japan to see me and him and he didn't bother to wake up to see them off to the airport. He disrespected my parents, and that is a BAD THING!! I broke up with that one as soon as I got back from the airport. Dweeb!
