BBC News is reporting on how an episode from the brand new series of the old science fiction TV show, Doctor Who, has been leaked onto the Internet. 'A 45-minute episode, called Rose, has appeared three weeks before the series is expected to begin on BBC One. Rose is the name of the character played by pop singer Billie Piper, who will be the assistant to the Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston.' With people saying sci-fi appeals more to the technical minded viewer, will this TV show's release onto the Internet damage the ratings considerably for the BBC? Or is it a minor problem for a corporation whose role is just to provide the public with entertainment?" Maybe it will boost ratings, instead; the public buzz about "leaks" is still far ahead of the average viewer's ability to actually find and download.
Dogberry 03-16-2005, 06:10 AM It was good in the 60's and 70's, not sure how the current generation will rate it.
Dr Who fans are mostly over 40!
BadNews88 03-16-2005, 12:25 PM SYLVESTER McCOY (1987-1989) was a pretty spiff Doctor who shoulda had a LONGER tenure of, say 3 more years..
TOM BAKER (1974-1981) is THE GREATEST CHARACTERIZATION of the Doctor....second to NONE!!!!
I'll wager my WHOLE BAG of JELLY BABIES on THAT! :D
Tomsk 03-26-2005, 03:18 PM I just finished watching the first episode (on TV, not a d/l) and its was great fun. My parents thought it was good, and it had the character of the old Doctor Whos, not that I'd reckognise that. I thought it would be much better if I was 6 and could hide behind the sofa! It was pretty good, although they saved the earth in one episode which apparently they didn't before. It was good fun, but the moving manequinnes weren't exactly terrifying.
"If you're an alien, how come you sound like your from the north?" :bowrofl:
Dogberry 03-26-2005, 06:46 PM What do you know, your a womble! :)
I thought it was good too and I liked that line.
I was that kid hiding behind the sofa 35 years ago, my daughter liked it, but i think it is a boys series.
Whovians!
Are they still using the Tardis? Whatever happened to Tegan? she came aboard after she had a flat tire in front of the tardis but I didn't see her leave
The shows were on PBS Friday nights and Saturday mornings so I missed a few details
exile 03-26-2005, 08:01 PM I found it a bit disappointing. It still has a lot of the character of the old show though.

I doubt it... I suspect it will be like the new Battlestar Galactica. It was released in europe months before it made it here, and was available for download. Despite that factor, the series has turned out to be more sucessful than anticipated.

Sylvester McCoy is my personal favorite. I never could get into the series until he came along.
sandy73 03-27-2005, 12:03 PM I just bought my dad the Dr. Phil DVD..
He is a BIG Dr. Phil fan... :nice:
Criminal 03-28-2005, 02:22 AM I love Who.
But I am afraid that the new series would not stack up to the original.
You can't replace Tom Barker. Thats for sure.
stormfiredragon 03-28-2005, 04:18 AM Well I watched the first episode this last Saturday and it was good - but I miss the cliffhanger! Saving the world in a single episode is new and it looks like they've got quite a few free-standing episodes where we used to have a connected set of episodes with cliffhangers for each story. Anyway, we'll have to see how it all shapes up.
The new bloke has elements of Tom Baker.
The film with McGann I thought was rubbish and not in the tradition of the tv series; and I thought the two Peter Cushing films were rubbish too - and he was never given an official number. So if they didn't count Cushing they shouldn't have counted McGann, which would make the new bod number 8 - suitable for one that seems to be rather an oddball.
Anyone got the viewing figures for episode 1?

Yes they still have the tardis, and I'm pretty sure its unchanged. I don't know who Tegan is, but I imagine they get new sidekicks every series.

Yeah I think it would be better if there were cliffhangers, but I think it might all tie into the same storyline anyway, I'm not sure. I think the viewing figures were something like 10 million, which is good. At least it beat Ant and Dec!
lilnymph 03-30-2005, 03:08 PM but i think it is a boys series.
:p I thought it was great :)
I always liked Sylvester McCoy, best, but thats probably because I remember him being the Doctor when I was young :) I do think this series looks like its going to continue in the best tradition though :)
hugs
lilnymph
Dr_EluSivE 03-30-2005, 09:54 PM I just Imported it Over the 'net and i kinda liked it. It Cant be EXACTLY like the old ones, it has a new modern feel which i think it the only way you could make it survive. I might have to "import" it every week along with 5th gear and Top gear. :nice:
