When is it appropriate, from the left or from the right, to compare the current political environment to the Nazis?

My short answer: never.

Click here (http://www.parentheticalremarks.********.com) to read my long answer, with some examples of nasty rhetoric from both sides.

Do you think Bush is like Hitler? Or Michael Moore is like Goebbles? Or does that just take things way too far?

It's taking it way too far. It trivializes the horrors the Nazis committed.

I think any attempt from any side to compare "the current political environment" to the Nazi's screams of stupidity.

It says point blank these people don't know a damn thing about who the Nazi's were. If anyone's comparing of Bush to Hitler or anything like that were true they would dissapear (get killed by "the Nazi's").

Unfourtunatly, the people who say this (those who I have personally heard it from) are just plain stupid and ignorant and cannot be told the truth. Like that girl who tried to tell me we were aiding and abetting Nazi Germany prior to our involvment in WW2.

That's right, she's convinced we were selling raw matirial and supplies to Nazi Germany to aid in it's fight against Britian.

:bang:

There's nothing you can do for them. You just have to realize they are in fact insane and there's nothing you can do.

Well its quite stupid to say that some things the Bush administration has done do not resemble or imitate that of Nazi Germany pre - 1939. If you want some comparisons I'll be happy to dig some up for you. However, to just plainly compare the United States or Bush himself as NAZI or HITLER is idiodic.

So true. And for Brainbuster:

""A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist state to supplant our democratic government and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy. I have had plenty of opportunity in my post in Berlin to witness how close some of our American ruling families are to the Nazi regime. . . .
"Certain American industrialists had a great deal to do with bringing fascist regimes into being in both Germany and Italy. They extended aid to help Fascism occupy the seat of power, and they are helping to keep it there." - William E. Dodd, U.S. Ambassador to Germany, 1937.(1) "

It's called "Godwin's Law". First person to compare their opponent to Hitler, or call then a Nazi, or whatever, LOSES. I think this should be expanded to comparing a situation to the rise of Hitler, a group to the Nazis, whatever, unless there are REAL links.

Anybody remember that ridiculous thread claiming the Democrats were Nazis?

Comparing Bush to Hitler is an insult to Hitler.

Comparing Bush to Hitler is an insult to Hitler.

For the love of humanity and all that is sane, issue a written and notarized request to your mom; formally request that she smacks the **** out of you.
