Hi, I couldn't post a thread earlier cause we had to leave, so now I'm posting it. I'm not at the internet cafe now, I'm at the house we're staying at, using the personal computer of the person who owns this house, so I can't be on for too long.
We took a ferry from Malaysia to Indonesia on January 8, so I've been here in Medan, Indonesia for about a week. We're working/doing ministry (and living for 2 or 3 weeks) at an orphanage... it's called Elida Children's Home, and it's a Christian orphanage, owned and run by a man named Pastor Domi and his wife Sarah.
The kids here are so beautiful. They may be poor, and without parents, but they are so blessed because they all are brought up to know Jesus and they truly are devoted children of God. You should see when they sing songs during praise/worship... they have a lot of passion, it's amazing... these kids are more spiritually mature than a lot of grown-ups, if you ask me... and they're really well-behaved and precious. Pastor Domi and his wife have done a fantastic job with these kids.
There are 80-something kids here now, but he is expecting 30 more, who are victims of the earthquake, and now parentless. Even though there are thousands of orphans, he can't take more than that at this time due to funds and lack of space, etc.
Our team is helping in different ways... we originally planned a bunch of different ministries, teaching them English, arts and crafts, teaching them songs, playing games, etc. We have been doing some of that, but the first thing we saw was the need for lots of practical work, so we've been doing that first.
And guess what? Pastor Domi didn't have a website, and he's been wanting one for a long time now, so he asked for anyone who could create a site, so I got the fun job. :D Actually, me and someone else on my team, Eivind, got the job of putting together a website for the orphanage, and I want to give you the URL.
It's not finished yet, we still have to add a few pages, and we also made some changes that need to be uploaded, but at least you can see it now... it's almost done.
There is A LOT of need here. There's so much poverty in Indonesia, and like I said, these kids are awesome, but they are poor... If anyone wants to help, this would be a great place to do that... Like I said, he is expecting 30 more kids who are victims of the earthquake, and this orphanage already has a lot of needs even without those kids.
If you want to help this place, there's an address on the site, but if you have any questions you can pm or email me (webms_cindy@hotmail.com)
Here's the new website... but like I said, keep in mind it's not quite done!
http://www.elida.net.tf
(let me know if it doesn't come up! I tried getting on it earlier today and it didn't work, but then it was up later.)
There's a lot more to say, but I can't be on this computer too long.
Let me know what you think about the site!
Love,
cindy
