You have posted a definition with no statement of context. To say that fascism arose in Eire and western Europe is a non sequitur. If you want to have a discussion, please make a point. then I can make a counterpoint, etc. Criminal 12-29-2004, 11:08 PM I did read his book Crusade in Spain. Its probibly out of print by now. I had to get it special ordered from the Library. Its a compelling read really. The Irish Volunteers were the only foreign volunteer force fighting on Franco's side. In his book O'Duffy came across as a religious zealot and an anti-semite. His unit was sent home before the war's end at Franco's request. Appearantly, Franco did not know how he could use this force. At any rate he got enough help from Mussolini and Hitler to finish his war. Myrddin 12-30-2004, 09:51 PM The BlueShirt movement didn't last very long and with the IRA opposing them they could never gain much power. dorag 12-31-2004, 09:35 AM its a dillima isnt it. join the commies or the facsists. Red shine´y 01-01-2005, 11:47 AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eoin_O%27Duffy Since the Eastern Rising in 1916 the newborn irish nationalism, in need of history, tried to gain cultural acceptance as a ground for independance. That struggle against reality continued even after december 6 1921, influenced by other rootless folks struggle for cultural dominance (germans, slaves, italians) and formation of national states. Accordingly to the nationalistic nomenclature of the time, Ireland was as land inherited by so called celtic tribes even if no solid scientific evidence could be presented. The numerous attempts to motivate irish tribal hegemony over other minorities as groups of different genotype (Travellers, Jews), to designate katholicism as national religion and to fabricate a culture based on speculative mythology is at fact a common characteristic of a fascistoide movement.
