View Full Version : Good shows that get cancelled...
ChaoticThoughts 12-11-2004, 11:23 PM On top of the list, Family Guy. Which is comming back! :)
But from time to time I see a good show killed, and anyone not in a suit will know that is a bad decision. I was also pissed about Politically Incorrect being thrown off air, but I know there are those here that were happy to see it leave from ABC. The show returned, with different name to HBO.
Any shows you can think off that should have survived longer? Or should even come back?
Diavolo 12-11-2004, 11:33 PM "My So Called Life" was an awesome show and definitely should've lasted longer. :D
jwreck 12-11-2004, 11:59 PM there's been too many to list. hell, I don't even remember most of em now. Seems like everytime I see a show I think is cool, it lasts about three weeks, then gets dumped for another washed up star's newest sitcom, or a reality show.
Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared.
Futurama, RIP.
i'd like to add to the list, three of my favourite shows that got cancelled
Married With Children
Dragnet
Off Center
off center has to be one of the funniest ever shows i've seen and it'#s just a pity that the 2nd series was cancelled after about 6 episodes.
also i like to re-ioterate the previous mentions of Family guy and Futurama
Red_Thunder 12-12-2004, 02:01 PM Tour of Duty
Hong Kong Phooey
jwreck 12-12-2004, 02:38 PM Cop Rock
:eek3: That was the most horrible thing to hit the airwaves.
SecretSamadhi 12-12-2004, 04:58 PM Angel and Quantum Leap.
:eek3: That was the most horrible thing to hit the airwaves.
I really liked it. I can see how it wouldn't last long though.
Gibson 12-12-2004, 06:03 PM "My So Called Life" was an awesome show and definitely should've lasted longer. :D
Ack :barf: That show was horrible :P I'd rather watch lifetime TV *shudders*
jadatrack 12-12-2004, 10:14 PM Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared.
Futurama, RIP.
:stupid:
i also liked some other show on fox. i think it was called Get Real, but i'm not sure...i'm also not sure if it was actually good or not, i was like 13 when it was on. never knew what happened to it either, i just turned on the one day and it was gone
Grizzly 12-13-2004, 09:55 AM Firefly.
lilnymph 12-22-2004, 03:54 PM Dark Angel And Firefly
And its even more annoying because Dark Angel was cancelled to make way for firefly. GRRR
hehe
hugs
lilnymph
igofast 12-22-2004, 04:33 PM Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared.
Futurama, RIP.
Those are all good calls. I think they were all victims of horrible time slots too. If they had been given the time slots and promotion they deserved, I think all three shows would have done much better. Well, Undeclared got a lot of promotion, but if I recall, it was in a bad time slot.
Married With Children
I don't think that one counts, it was on for like 9 years, that's a HUGE run for a sitcom.
i also liked some other show on fox. i think it was called Get Real, but i'm not sure...i'm also not sure if it was actually good or not, i was like 13 when it was on. never knew what happened to it either, i just turned on the one day and it was gone
Is that the one with chris elliot as a newspaper boy?
I really liked sportsnight, that never found a really solid audience, I think the name sort of turned a lot of people off, even though it wasn't about sports at all.
Mystlet 12-22-2004, 07:38 PM Batfink
Dacar92 12-22-2004, 11:26 PM Dr Who was an awesome Brit show. It got canceled after only 26 years! The injustice!!
lilnymph 12-23-2004, 04:57 AM Dr Who was an awesome Brit show. It got canceled after only 26 years! The injustice!!
Their making a new series at the moment :)

The Frog 12-23-2004, 02:46 PM Technically BBC never really admitted to Doctor Who being cancelled. However, one can only see 'On hiatus' as the status for so long before it's quietly accepted that it is gone.
I'm still waiting for Season 9 of Red Dwarf, m'self.
Oh, and the reason Futurama bit it is this: the IDIOTS that make the decisions to run a pointless after-game show when some NFL gmae runs over time. The fans just spent 3+ hours watching a game, they don't need over-paid stuffed suits telling them what they just spent 3+ hours watching!
If the next show (Futurama) comes on at 6:30 and the game was supposed to end by 6:00 but ran over to 6:31, then CUT TO THE SHOW and DON'T run the pointless 20 minute rehash and kill 3/4 of the show you're preemting.

Red Dwarf was cool. How about Blakes 7. Do you remember that? It was a nice storyline, but I believe it had pretty much run the story over 4 seasons.
Other Brit shows I miss:
Monty Python
Dave Allen at Large
The Two Ronnies
Benny Hill
Battletoad 12-26-2004, 08:20 PM Hey Dude starring Ben Stiller's wife.
Dr_EluSivE 12-27-2004, 12:51 AM family guy, Firefly, John Doe, Max Headroom, im sure there are others too.
Dr.

Monster 01-03-2005, 12:38 AM Sportsnight, definitely. :nice:
Freakazoid, Animaniacs (!!!), Pinky & The Brain
There are some others that I had in my brain, but they ran away.
Diavolo 01-03-2005, 03:47 AM Eerie, Indiana was another cool show that didn't last very long.
Dreamscapist 01-03-2005, 03:24 PM American Gothic
Key West
LEXX (Sci Fi Channel series)....in the two known universes, there is only one Xev.
beatlebabe 01-03-2005, 03:47 PM You know what show I miss??? (It's on cable, but I'm too poor for cable right now :hmm: )
Whose Line Is It Anyway??? That show rocks :nice: I watched it last night & nearly fell off the bed laughing
slackr 01-03-2005, 10:23 PM Soap.
Rayney 01-07-2005, 11:10 AM American Gothic

Dreamscapist 01-07-2005, 11:22 AM YES! That is EXACTLY what I was going to say. When it got cancelled I remember hearding somehting about how Americans didnt like the bad guys winning
Like Bush...with a B?
Most memorable American Gothic scene involved an ex-con, his old friend's daughter, and a popsicle.
Rayney 01-07-2005, 11:30 AM Most memorable American Gothic scene involved an ex-con, his old friend's daughter, and a popsicle.
I liked the one where Merlyn was using that baby to bring herself back into the world of the living, and Buck chased her over the bridge and stuff.
I heard a while ago they were thinking of bringing it back, but the kid that played Caleb would be too old to play a part now :(
Someones at the door :|

Lucas Black made the show....he was great in All the Pretty Horses, too.
Dacar92 01-08-2005, 07:58 PM The Prisoner, by far the most brilliant TV series ever.
Hill Street Blues
I edited your answers to reflect the others I forgot about. The Prisoner was an awesome show. Very ahead of it's time.
Hill St Blues was the best police show ever. I wish it was on somewhere.
SweetSnarkster 01-12-2005, 04:50 PM Freaks n Geeks!
Two Way Radio 01-13-2005, 12:22 PM Family Guy and Freaks & Geeks stand out for me. Saw someone mentioned Hey Dude. Was that cancelled? Didn't they just get too old to keep it going?
Criminal 01-18-2005, 12:17 AM Also....
The Invaders (http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-2350/The_Invaders/)
just_plain_li 01-18-2005, 01:10 AM Eerie, Indiana was another cool show that didn't last very long.
Sportsnight, definitely. :nice:
Freakazoid, Animaniacs (!!!), Pinky & The Brain
There are some others that I had in my brain, but they ran away.
God unfortunately I remeber all the above annoying cartoons/kid shows. And no there was no mistake canceling them!
:p
Im not sure if its canceled I havent seen it on, Six Feet Under.
Old cartoon---Biker Mice From Mars----all time favorite! :nice:
igofast 01-18-2005, 12:18 PM Six Feet Under is not cancelled.

I use to love that show myself! ;)
wallijonn 02-05-2005, 03:14 AM ENTERPRISE has just been cancelled.
nachocheez 02-09-2005, 06:29 PM I catch Futurama on Comedy Central every now and then... I got really into Relativity (not sure if anyone remembers it), My So-Called Life, Kingpin (I missed the finale!) before they got axed.
Zalka87 02-22-2005, 03:08 PM Here's my list:
The Sentinel
The Fugitive (2000 version)
The Lost World
Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
teilhard 02-26-2005, 08:22 PM On top of the list, Family Guy. Which is comming back! :)

teilhard 02-26-2005, 08:24 PM "bridgette loves bernie" and "sunshine".
BratsBoy 02-27-2005, 12:23 AM http://www.studioaudiences.com/images/showimages/titus.jpg
nachocheez 03-01-2005, 04:41 PM "My So Called Life" was an awesome show and definitely should've lasted longer. :D
Agreed. Also loved Futurama (it sort of lives on on adultswim) and now preparing myself to mourn Arrested Development (rumors are looking like it will become reality :( ).
p.s. Those chickens were so funny! I think you'd also like "Bitter with Baggage Seeks Same: the Life and Times of Some Chickens" by Sloane Tanen.
teilhard 03-01-2005, 08:38 PM ;) thank you. gilmore girls is my speed. dorothy parker and smoky cocktails.
suzecue 03-02-2005, 09:59 PM I was just starting to get into "John Doe" and then...gone! :P
GupLoaf 03-03-2005, 09:29 AM All the following were prematurely ended in my opinion:
Angel
Tru Calling
Wonderfalls
Soap
teilhard 03-03-2005, 07:42 PM even faster, maybe deja vu, blind justice.
Lrechna 03-17-2005, 06:30 AM Chicago Hope? The Practice? Ally McBeal?
Chris 03-17-2005, 07:35 AM Batfink
:nice: "Your kangorobot can not harm me, my wings are like a shield of steel"
Also, The Prisoner reminded me of another great cancelled show: Prisoner (known in the UK as Prisoner: Cell Block H)

;)

I liked that show a lot. The tough women in uniform, the bonding of the inmates...

At one time I would have raised bail for Doreen.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/dreamscapearts/1989_doreen.jpg
Did you know there was a musical based on the show?
Had to have been bizarre.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v217/dreamscapearts/prisonersigned.jpg
Strega Del Vento 05-06-2005, 07:36 PM Most recently, "Point Pleasant". My Husband was hooked on that show and they yanked it after just a few episodes. Totally unfair. It could've gone far.
Another one was from a couple years back. "Miracles" (ABC I think?) starring Skeet Ulrich. That too was cancelled after only about 4 shows.
:not:
Bear Stories 05-06-2005, 08:28 PM Boomtown was great, I thought, but it barely lasted a season and a half. And on the other hand there are shows like Yes, Dear that just will not die. No fair! (and it re-enforces my theory that network exes are stupid, stupid, stupid)
teilhard 05-06-2005, 08:30 PM if they don't yank a show, they hide it. "boston legal" is good;so is "grey"s anatomy". why not watch both?
teilhard 05-06-2005, 08:37 PM "gilmore girls" could have been a victim.
SivVulk 05-06-2005, 11:23 PM Here's my list:
The Sentinel
The Fugitive (2000 version)
The Lost World
Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
Hey Zalka have you ever visited the Lost world message board? It's a great site! I've been a member there for a long time (at least four years)
www.lostworldtv.net/bbs
Brian 05-11-2005, 08:20 AM You know what show I miss??? (It's on cable, but I'm too poor for cable right now :hmm: )
Whose Line Is It Anyway??? That show rocks :nice: I watched it last night & nearly fell off the bed laughing
The Richard Simmons episode was the funniest damn thing I've ever seen..

I think Space: Above and Beyond was ahead of it's time. Good show, lots of action and well written.
kellet 06-08-2005, 08:00 AM Odyssey 5
Da Ali G Show - this might come back, he is surely up to something
GROFF200 06-08-2005, 04:37 PM I've gotta add this one to the list: Farscape
Most people who have seen it either hate it or love it, but most people have never seen it. I personally thought it was the coolest sci-fi show ever.
Also, whatever happened to Beyond 2000?
Epicius 06-08-2005, 05:44 PM Mine :-
Firefly, Dark Angel, John Doe, Odessey 5, Space: Above and Beyond
kellet 06-10-2005, 03:28 AM Yeah it was really not cool what they did with Odyssey 5, leaving it like that. Cliffhanger is way too mild a word. I don't know what to call it.
Della April 06-10-2005, 09:05 AM Dr Who was an awesome Brit show. It got canceled after only 26 years! The injustice!!
It's back! The new series has been going for about 2 months now in the UK...
Della April 06-10-2005, 09:12 AM ENTERPRISE has just been cancelled.
Yay, woo hoo, three cheers and rejoice! Words cannot express how happy that makes me...
Della April 06-10-2005, 09:17 AM Mine :-
Firefly, Dark Angel, John Doe, Odessey 5, Space: Above and Beyond
Ah, Odyssey 5, saw about one and half eps, it looked promising, but oh the effing and blinding!
Tru Calling, and Space Above and Beyond - I loved that!
Epicius 06-14-2005, 08:19 AM Ah, Odyssey 5, saw about one and half eps, it looked promising, but oh the effing and blinding!
Tru Calling, and Space Above and Beyond - I loved that!
Just found out about Tru Calling.
Still, it does cut down on my telly watching, I was spending far too long infront of the box.

Dr.
boedicca 06-14-2005, 06:51 PM Legacy and Witch Blade
Tally 06-14-2005, 08:28 PM I wish Third Rock From The Sun were still on, that was such a silly show!
Della April 06-15-2005, 12:11 AM Just found out about Tru Calling.
Still, it does cut down on my telly watching, I was spending far too long infront of the box.
We loved Tru Calling, it was weird in a good way...
Della April 06-15-2005, 12:17 AM and its pretty good, Ive been watching it every week. Gotta love Bittorrent :|
Dr.
We haven't seen it yet... It's coming on in 'winter' say the local channels, and it's winter now!
We're on sloooooow dial up, so Bitorrent is out.
another good show that got cancelled was "a minute with stan hooper". it was funny, really funny
Tally 06-15-2005, 08:02 PM One of my all time favorites was Absolutely Fabulous, I wish that show could have gone on forever!
CowPunk 06-15-2005, 09:09 PM I'm sorry they've never brought back Wait 'Til your Father Gets Home.
Tally 06-21-2005, 09:02 PM I can't believe I forgot News Radio!! I loved that show. Does anyone know if it was cancelled because Phil Hartman died or was it for other reasons?
DarkRealm 06-26-2005, 05:21 AM Come on people, only one of the best cartoons on Adult Swim, "Home Movies". That show was brilliant. Thank God for the release of the first 2 seasons. As for the other shows I think were prematurely cancelled, well I agree on "Freaks and Geeks", "Politically Incorrect", "Titus", "Dark Angel", and "News Radio"(though Phil Hartman being killed had a lot to do with it). Til next time, Peace and Later
Rhuid 07-02-2005, 09:09 PM I completely agree with your picks on Titus and Politically Incorrect.
While PI has been reborn slightly in Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, Titus was a very funny show. The addition of Stacy Keach as the father was the best casting ever. The show was funny, irreverent, and most of all, dysfunctional with a capital D.
The WB's "Popular" Fox's "Skin" and "Boston Public.
I looked up and saw another member's avatar and instantly remembered Fox's "Dark Angel" that show was great I love Jessica Alba in that series as well as her roomate and former fiance.
So many but only these few come to mind.
