"Barry 'J.T.' Rogers, known as Johnny Rahm in scores of gay sex movies, committed suicide in Atlanta on Nov. 7. He was 39. Rogers hung himself with a wire on the fence line of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, according to the Atlanta Police Department... Rogers, who was HIV -positive, is survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother, according to [cousin Jamey Rousey]. Rousey said he and Rogers were raised fundamental Baptists and attended a Christian high school in Macon and also attended Bob Jones University... Rogers moved to California in the late 1980s and worked for about a decade in the gay sex film industry, Rousey said... Rogers was the winner of the 1993 Gay Video Guide's Best Supporting Actor Award for his role as a mafia don in Body Search, directed by gay porn favorite Chi Chi LaRue. He also won the 1995 Best Supporting Actor award for All About Steve."

Wow, how does one go from attending Bob Jones University to starring in gay porn films. He his head must have been swimming.

I once visited Bob Jones in the early 70s. It was like a prisoner of war camp.

I was wondering the same thing Anarky...."Rousey said he and Rogers were raised fundamental Baptists and attended a Christian high school in Macon and also attended Bob Jones University." Quite a change

I think he realized the absurdity of religion and decided to think for himself.

Sad about the Hiv/suicide.

Well, we see where "thinking for himself" got him.

What's the alternative to thinking for one's self? Letting others do your thinking for you?

What's the alternative to thinking for one's self? Letting others do your thinking for you?

It's like this: We were made to believe in something greater than ourselves...be it God, the Human Collective, the State or even Little Green Men. I don't know if it's simply an emergent property of consciousness or a hardwired bit of evolution. It doesn't matter what the reasons for it are, it's an undeniable fact. I'd say it's an absolute requirement for living a healthy life.

Those who don't believe in anything greater than themselves tend to indulge in self-destructive behaviour. There is a hole in them where that belief in greater things should be - and they tend to fill that hole with things like drugs, alcohol or extremely promiscuous sex. That part of their psyche needs to be fed one way or another.

The young man cited in this article probably would have been happier had he found some religion. I don't give a crap if that meant he wasn't being true to himself or whatever - the result couldn't have been any worse for him than what he suffered in the end, and most likely it would have turned out a whole lot better.

This is why I stand behind Christianity or any moderate religion. It fills that hole in a very healthy way. Most moderate religions promote noble ideals and a love of your fellow human. It's not just harmless, it's good for you and good for everyone. It's not stupid, ignorant or any of those things; on the contrary, it's completely natural.

Odd statement from a man who claims to be an atheist. And, of course, believing in something higher isn't quite the same as not believing in yourself, is it?

I'm sorry that this person took his own life, I am sorry that Contra must show the negative side of the right but he obviously is standing up for the ideals of neoconservatism. I am also sorry a conservative hasnt said he is sorry this man is dead without going into a lecture about his choice of lifestyle.

Idon't see why ithis considered "light news." It is always sad when someone takes their own life regardless of their lifestyle! I don't believe that this man was "trash" nor do I agree that he had a "hole" in his life without religion. Religion is for some, but not for everyone. Being non-religious does not make someone less of a person.

It's in the lighter side news because the mods wanted me to put my "forked up stories" in there and not in the news forum. I can't post in the news anymore.

Then they should have a "weird news" sub-forum so you dont have to put news that isnt "light" by any definition in with humorous stories.

I certainly never said being non-religious makes someone less of a person as that would be a mighty stupid thing for an atheist to say. It can be of benefit to some people, though. I don't doubt that many far-leftists hate Christianity to such a degree that they'd rather see someone completely self-destruct instead of finding a bit of peace in a church. God (heh) forbid they take up a pro-life stance or something...best just to left them stick their head in a noose.
