Our new place has free cable, so I took the bait and have been letting my kids watch TV (I generally record the shows so they don't have to see any commercials, which seem to have the same effect on them as crack-cocaine would have on an adult).
Here's my faves:

Clifford
Blue's Clues
Little Bill
Max and Ruby

Here's my kids' faves:

Jimmy Neutron (the boy loves this, which is strange since it's for older kids and he's only 2)
Dora the Explorer (this one gets on my nerves after a while, but the kids are nuts about it)
Blue's Clues (finally common ground! what generation gap?)

My kids also dig some of the old videos I pick up for 'em when I go thrift-shopping: Little People, Dr. Seuss, Fantasia, Milo & Otis

When the boy wakes up at the asscrack of dawn (which is almost every day) I click on PBS for him, and they show this program he LOVES called "Bee-Bahs" (? I have no idea how to spell it?) which is this bizarre psychedelic version of the teletubbies which has no words, only crazy imagery and giggling kids.

That show gives me flashbacks :eek3:

My favorite was always Sesame Street, I hope it's still around when my I have kids, I think it's a great combination of entertainment and learning. And I used to babysit a kid who was crazy for Dora The Explorer.

Sesame Street is still around but it sucks now, they have a strict "format" where they show all the same segments (Elmo's world, where's Ernie, etc.) in the same order everyday, they rarely show the old little musical film clips that I always loved. It used to be more of a variety, now it's pretty boring, I dunno why they changed it.

Also fun is "Plaza Sesamo" the spanish version. It's always more interesting for me when I can't understand what they're saying.

most of the stuff that I watched when I was a kid is no longer on like The Muppets, Peewee's Playhouse, Mr. Rogers and Fraggle Rock.

If we can, we'll somehow get our hands on DVD copies of all the old kids' shows we used to watch for our own children. Oldschool Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Dressup, Today's Special, The Big Friendly Giant, etc. I'm sure I've forgotten some, but Diavolo would remember the rest.

Those are the best one, especially Mr. Rogers.

Thrift stores are great for this. I was buying vids and dvd's off of amazon at first, but one day I realized that every goodwill I've ever been to has tons of kids flicks for a cople bucks apiece. Now my kids have more videos than there are shows on cable.

And dammit, Mr. Rogers is still on TV

Oh yeah, the kids love Charlie Brown also, and anything claymation/computer-generated.

Any kid's show that has jazz piano as the soundtrack gets my vote.

Have the PBS Kids line-up. My 6 yr. old likes most of these.

He'll come up to me and spout out info on animals from the show Zoboomafoo.
I can't believe they resurrected Zoom. Yow! And Reading Rainbow is a favourite of his, too. That one has been around. He also favours Dragon Tales and Clifford.
Personaly..I think that Caillou is a siss. A tad whiny. :P

I heard that Cyberchase is a great Math helper. Sneaks in good Math skills.

I used to like 3 2 1 Contact. I don't even really remember what it was about, but I remember I liked it.

My nephew really likes Teletubbies, Dora, Blue's Clues, Jojo's Circus, and Bear in the Big Blue House, and Teen Titans.

I actually like Teen Titans and will sit with him and watch it with him. I can't stand Teletubbies and Jojo's Circus gets on my nerves because of the ending song. All the others aren't too bad.

My son loves Noggin. It is a great network for kids. Personally, the only show on it I can tolerate is Dora the Explorer. It is a good show. My son loves Franklin, Oobi, and a few others.
Personally, I think Oobi is the bane of my existence. It is just retarded.
I like the Disney channels cartoons. Higgly town heroes, koala brothers, jojos circus, house of mouse, those are my favs. Cant stand out of the box, and I like the Wiggles, as does my son. He is half Aussie though so it stands to reason. I learned all their main songs on guitar so I play the songs for him and he sings to it, so we have fun together..LOL

I completey forgot about Reading Rainbow! That used to be one of my absolute favourites. I could never understand why the blind guy from Star Trek could suddenly see, though. I kept asking my mom where his visor was. :D

Kids should learn about the real world by watching The Real World.
