It's a poll, and it's that simple.

somewhere in the middle. you only list two extremes here.

sometimes, being nuturing is called for, other times being able to enforce the rules is needed. there is no one or the other here. its a combination of both.

and parenting is NEVER as simple as a poll, NEVER.

Yep. It's a balancing act. There are times when both are needed.

Consistency with your kids is paramount.

Kids need to see that a man can be whatever he needs to be at any given time, depending on the circumstances. So my kids get just about every version of me there is.

PB is absolutely right about consistency, though, you should always react the same to the same actions by your children, at least until they're old enough to grasp some nuance. Even a "bad" reaction (scolding them) is okay as long as they can see a pattern of when it happens and why.

What the others said. There needs to be a middle ground.

Yes. Absolutely. The different contributions of each sex is vitally important. The kids know a difference, if they get hurt, the first person they want to make them feel better is mommy. If they want something fixed, the first person they want is daddy. (If they want candy, the first person they ask is grandma.)

I stick to the middle ground, but I lean more towards strict honestly. Its wierd though. I am 100 % nurturing, so long as he is following established rules. The only time I am strict is about established rules, or when establishing new rules. I am not one to get mad cause he spills something, or breaks something, but if he colors on the wall, after being told not to, his butt is mine
