Well I couldn't be more proud of my older boy Connor.

There's a part to teh local McD's playplace that's had him terrified since he was 2 (he's 4 1/2 now) because it contained a car that seems to only hang by a web and rocks freely to a certain angle when someone enters. This Saturday, for the first time, I got him to cross it. Once. He did not want to do so again but was glad to have done it. Later, as we drove to our next destination, we talked about it and I gave him some steps 1-2-3 on how to do it next time and as long as he follows those he knows he'll be fine.

Well, today my wife had them out and about and they went there again. She had seen what he did Saturday and he in typical fashion said he would do it again, but she figured also in typical fashion on this one and only topic, he would not in fact do it. After eating he got on and went all over the place on the placeplace gym, but not right to that part, as she expected. However within a few minutes, she noticed he was quiet up there and she looked and found him, quietly doing the 1-2-3 steps we had discussed, and he crossed the wobbly car. He ran down and told her, she was proud, so am I.... but that's not the big part.

In my wife's words, here's what she saw:

'But the beautiful thing was this. There was a girl, older than him, who hadn't been on this playscape before. She had questioned how to get to the slide earlier, so that's why I figured that. I kept hearing someone say..Help me get across this thing, and I look up to see Connor on the end, talking her through it. He kept telling her exactly what to do, and that she wouldn't fall, and that she was doing great.
He kept telling her the steps that you <Connor and I> two worked out. He was so encouraging. I still get misty. It was just precious. He was so sweet and gentle with her. <sigh> I love that little guy.'

THAT'S m'boy!

It's awsome when you see that your kids are growing up to be good people.
despite our best efforts. :D

i agree, i babysit a lot, and i always see the kids fighting with their siblings, and not listening, so when i see them do it right, it's always just, 'aaww.'

Well so far he's been great with his little bro. Seems to have a natural tendency to watch over him, and has no problem playing down to his level. Couldn't ask for better boys.

...now if we could just get him to stop talking occasionally... LOL

That made me laugh..
My boys fight all the time.. It's the only thing that gets on my nerves about them. It's fight to see who gets the remote.. who gets dressed first..who gets into the car first.. who even gets tucked in first :nonono: :p

odd that...
You're nervously waiting for the little monster to mumble his first "daddy" or any other half-formed and objectively uninteresting word, and when he begins to build sentences and dicovers the joy of well-formed communication, you'd wish he'd remain silent

Von....whatsit-

It's the catch 22 of parenthood, LOL.

Kat- They don't fight and he's a well behaved little gentleman to us with the exception that now and then he can't seem to make his mouth close and remain so for any appreciable amout of time. He was in fact a very early and proficient talker. He has remarkable verbal comprehenion.

Terrapin- Same for my wife- heck it made me misty hearing it the first time.

Swappy, so does big sis count as the subwoofer or the back channel for surround sound?
