View Full Version : people are sick...
jwreck 05-30-2004, 11:43 PM My last day at work I got to help a 25 year old girl whose brother beat the ever living crap out of her. Why? Because she didn't answer the door fast enough when he knocked. Later that day I got to respond to a 3 year old boy molested by an 8 year old boy. What a joyeous day. :(
jwreck 06-04-2004, 02:26 PM More interesting days. A guy got carved up pretty good. He says he was partying with some gay guys, when the bars closed, he didn't want to go home with him so they attacked him. Cut him up pretty good. Stabbed him in the belly. Also made a 16 year old kid whose mom had pegged him in the back of the head with a jar. She hit him square in the back of the head from about 20 ft away! She won a ticket to jail for that throw and he got a trip to cps. My friend made a DOA, guy shot in the head. Woman told the cops her and her bofriend were arguing, and her 9 year old son got her pistol and shot him. Just saw on the news today, she made that up. She's now charged with murder.
jwreck 06-04-2004, 11:38 PM Oh yeah, another nice one. Called for a baby locked in the car at a Wal-mart. (reminder, the heat index was about 104) Mexican woman, 5 kids in a Dodge Durango. 3 month old infant locked inside laying on the front seat. Luckily we got there quickly and got the baby out. She was fine but something seemed odd to me. Then I realized, sh has 5 kids, ranging from 3 months to 8 years, and not a single car seat for her kids, not even the infant. Since the cops were there I let them know about it. What does the cop say, "There's nothing I can do about it." WTF!! Nothing you can do about it!? You're a frigging cop, aren't you? Right em a ticket. Call cps. Something. He then proceeds to tell me that it happens all the time, and a ticket won't stop em. Then he tells me cps wouldn't even bother to come out (this was later confirmed by my supervisor). What is the point of having laws if you aren't going to enforce them? Why do I believe that if this was a white woman from River Oaks she'd have gotten the ticket?
eeper69 06-04-2004, 11:54 PM You know this all sounds very familiar to me...a lot like my life story.
jwreck 06-20-2004, 03:37 PM What kind of idiot gets into a shootout with a cop over a tv and vcr from Wal-mart? Is it worth dying over? Cop takes one in the arm, shoplifter, I repeat, shoplifter takes three in the belly, one in the arm and one in the leg, and gets an instant promotion from shoplifter to attempted capitol murder. What an idiot.
Althemier 06-20-2004, 05:25 PM Ya theres alot of **** out there. Just hearing some of the **** my gf used to get from her bro's makes me disgusted. Where do you work?
I have a friend that just went to live with her dad because her mom locked her in a closet for 2 days. I just saw her the day after her brother got back from camp and finally let her out. Her moms in jail and shes moving to santa rosa with her dad. Ill miss her but im glad in a way she looked so bad. **** like this is aweful i respect you dude, i could never handle that in a job every day.
jwreck 06-23-2004, 10:03 PM I work on an ambulance for the Houston Fire Department.
jwreck 07-12-2004, 11:02 PM Car accident last night. Woman walking around very stiffly, so I suggest she go to the hospital. She says she doesn't want to go, she's fine. So I sit her down, ask her the typical questions, and continue to suggest that she go to the hospital. She continues to refuse, so I tell her she needs to sign a refusal form. Then she tells me she can't because she can't feel her arms. :eek3: I tell her that she definitely needs to go to the hospital if she can't feel her arms. You know what she says "Well other than my neck hurting and the fact that I can't feel my arms, I'm fine. I don't want to go to the hospital." Finally, about 20 minutes later her friends convince her to go to the hospital. What a stupid bitch. :not:
eeper69 07-13-2004, 08:19 AM Common sense is not so common. So, did she also have a head injury or was she just stupid???
jwreck 07-17-2004, 09:30 PM Common sense is not so common. So, did she also have a head injury or was she just stupid???Well, she was definitely drunk. Other than that, I don't know. I hardly ever find out what happens too them after I drop em off, especially if its close to the end of the shift (this one was).
Terrapin 07-17-2004, 09:38 PM dude...you got rough job..I don't envy you :( ..but I guess as they say..someone has to do it...are you an emt?
jwreck 08-02-2004, 02:51 PM Yeah, I'm an EMT with the Houston Fire Department. I work on an ambulance in the barrio.
Last day on I made a 30 year old who collapsed and had a heart attack at work. After one shock and cpr we got his pulse back. He had pulses and was breathing when we got him to the hosptal. An little while later I checked on him after making another run to the same hospital. He was dead. Come to find out he'd had a heart transplant a few years ago. After we turned him over he crashed on them and they didn't get him back.
Betty 08-03-2004, 01:43 PM I couldn't handle that job.
jwreck 08-05-2004, 05:30 PM Last night, 2:30 am, drunk bitch rear-ends another car at a light, not really a big deal. Suddenly, she decides to run for it. The cops go out after her. A couple miles down the road she loses control, flips her car several times and is ejected. So I get to go scrape this stupid bitch off the street and keep her alive till we get to the hospital. It sucks trying to save someone you really want to strangle. Thank God she didn't hit anyone else. She lived btw, but she was pretty ****ed up. May lose her left arm. Oh yeah, almost forgot, 21 year old chick with 3 kids at home, and she was out drinking at the club all night. Just ****ing stupid. :nonono:
jwreck 09-17-2004, 10:50 PM Last night I had the pleasure of making a 5 month pregnant Nigerian chic. She called the cops and said she was assaulted. Come to find out, her family had thrown her out, and she had nowhere to go. Even though she was "assaulted", she had no pain and no complaints, but she insisted we take her to the hospital so she could "rest". The cops offered to take her to a shelter, but she insisted on going to the hospital. Her sister said that the government is supposed to helping her get an apartment, but they are going very slow (imagine that). So because our director says we can't refuse to transport anyone, we take her to the hospital, where she commences to telling the triage nurse what bad people we are for telling her she should go to a shelter. She cries to the nurse that she doesn't can't get a job because she has no skills, and her babies daddy won't return her calls, and she's afraid of being deported because she's here illegally, :blahblah: Then I wanted to puke when the nurse assured her that they'd put her in touch with a social worker and help het her an apartment and get her in programs to pay for her housing, medical care, and food, and not to worry because here's no way they'd deport her while she's pregnant!!!!!!! ****ing parasites like this should be deported IMMEDIATELY!!!
jwreck 11-18-2004, 09:49 PM Now I'm in fire school so no stories for awhile.
jwreck 12-08-2004, 07:59 PM Yep. Fire school. 5 months of learning to spray water on fires. :|
jwreck 06-20-2005, 04:11 AM The other day I made an 11 year old boy attacked by a Rotweiller. Had a 5 inch gash in his arm down to the boy. Such a brave kid. Never cried or anything.
Then last night I made a 4 year old boy whose mother has been giving him albuterol treatments ever 6 hours for the last 3 years. :eek3: Then she couldn't figure out why his heart was racing so fast it felt like it was about to jump out of his chest. Maybe if she spoke English she would have understood the directions the Dr gave her...
Someone Somewhere 06-20-2005, 05:31 AM jwreck-- very interesting stories I wanna hear MORE :D
axoangelq 06-20-2005, 11:46 PM my brother is the chief paramedic for one of the private teams here in chicago. A few years back, this woman was like 1300 pounds, all of her bones were disjointed. She needed to go to the hospital. They had to cut out a portion of the wall, use a construction truck with the arm thing (sorry I don't know what its called) they had to take everything out of the back of the ambulance to put her in it, she broke the shocks.
When they got to the hospital, they had to take her through the frieght doors and use a frieght scale. She then cried and complained she was being treated unjustly because of her weight. They explained to her that was the only scale in the hospital that went that high in weight.
God, I don't understand that at all.
being on the ambulance makes you see all the worst things. Its suprising that more of you aren't bitter and pessimistic about the human race.
flaming_liberal 06-20-2005, 11:54 PM THat's just wrong. There should be a legal weight limit, like under half a ton.
jwreck 06-23-2005, 02:19 AM workin downtown tomorrow, should be one or two good stories...
Mystlet 06-23-2005, 07:15 AM jwreck, thanks for what you do out there everyday!
I know that you probably don't hear this enough,
but you are appreciated, and very much so!

jwreck 06-26-2005, 02:53 AM ok boys and girls...if you try to commit suicide with a shotgun, don't miss. :| made a guy today who tried to kill himself with a shotgun 10 years ago. he looks like the predator (swarzeneggar movie). he has a big hole where his nose was and he can stick his tongue out it because the roof of his mouth is gone. he has a stoma in his throat, no teeth, and he has to cover his stoma to make audible words through his fabricated mouth. very sad indeed. he's had 53 surgeries in the last 10 years. seems like a nice guy, but very messed up. imagine looking at someone and seeing the innner workings of their head. very unnattractive.

Because she didn't answer the door fast enough when he knocked. Later that day I got to respond to a 3 year old boy molested by an 8 year old boy. What a joyeous day. :(
One thing does not sound right: Can an 8 year old really molest a 3 year old? I do not think an 8 year old is physically capible of having sex. I can be mistaken but I do not think it possible. :hmm:

jwreck 07-19-2005, 01:09 AM so today i got to work in a lovely public healthcare clinic in the southwest part of town. maybe 1 of 10 patients actually spoke english. the really sad thing is to get a job there you have to speak spanish. wtf is this country coming to? i got to draw lots of blood today. stuck my first kid with a needle. strange feeling. on one hand, i'm glad to be helping. on the other, i'm sad that the needle hurts him. :( such is the yin and yang of life i suppose.
Malcolm Wright 07-19-2005, 01:26 AM Well, she was definitely drunk. Other than that, I don't know. I hardly ever find out what happens too them after I drop em off, especially if its close to the end of the shift (this one was).
Mmm, maybe she was afraid she wouldn't be able to afford treatment... I agree its stupid, but human nonetheless...
You do valuable work Jwreck, just want to give you your props.

I don't know how you do it. With our oldest having a heart condition, just seeing him all wired up when he's in the hospital is to much for me. I'm glad you're out there though and so thank you. It might be yin and yang, but thank god there are people out there like you who are there and care about what you're doing.
I think it's good you post this stuff, getting it out can never hurt. Like my husband's job. It can get pretty crazy in that place and I'm so thankful when he can come home and talk to me about it. I know he hates it, but he keeps going for us.

jwreck 09-14-2005, 11:23 PM the other day i made a women with a migraine headache. when we went in the house, she was sitting on the couch. in the other room it sounded like a party going on. while i was trying to talk to this women about what was wrong (with great difficulty i might add, due to the noise) a younger woman came out of the other room, so i asked her to please turn down the music. she got pissed of and wanted to know why. (remember, her aunt is sitting on the couch nearly in tears with a migraine headache). wtf is wrong with people? hell, why not just come over and smack her in her head. :nonono:
GROFF200 09-15-2005, 10:19 AM What really amazes me, is that the people who work as EMTs and firefighters, don't pick up the hobby of serial killing in their off time.
Based on the stories I've heard, it sounds like for every person you, save, you'd be doing society a favour if you killed 3 more.

the sad thing is, they usually take it out on themselves. suicide rate is much higher.
btw, back on the streets, now as a paramedic, so stories should be following soon.
jwreck 06-27-2006, 06:16 PM two suicides in three days. first guy was seperated from his wife, and bi-polar. she goes to his apartment to take him back to their house, thinking they will work things out. he waits for her to walk in the door and shoots himself in front of her. second guy goes to a gun range, pays the range fee, goes out to the line for awhile, then shoots himself in the head. at least he was considerate enough to turn sideways so that the bullet went downrange instead of hitting someone else on the line. kinda strange though, he didn't even hang a target. i realized how calloused i've become. one of the guys at the range asked if we saw alot of this kind of thing, and i said yes. he said it must be a tough job. i just said "sometimes", and went back to laughing at the cop there because the drunk he picked up from the last call we made had pissed in his car. i don't know...its strange...i didn't put him there, he made the choice, and there's nothing i can do to fix it.
Brainbuster 06-27-2006, 08:47 PM Does seeing dead people all day give you some sort of depression?
Do you drink your worries away?
jwreck 06-27-2006, 11:13 PM Does seeing dead people all day give you some sort of depression?
Do you drink your worries away?not really. at first it was kind of a rush, as i spelled out here
(http://discussanything.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81894). now its not really a big deal.
jwreck 10-18-2006, 10:29 PM what kind of sick bitch would throw bleach into someone's eyes? dudes girlfrien got mad at him, so she waited till he turned to look at her, then threw a cup of bleach into his eyes, then turned around and walked off. what a vicious ****. :nonono:
Shawn 10-18-2006, 11:12 PM I don't know how people in your position do it, man. I'm generally an optimist, and expect people to act the way that I would. I've been a soldier, and seen some crappy stuff, but can't imagine seeing worse than that on a daily basis without losing my mind. How do you do it without becoming an incredibly crass cynic?
Fayebelle 10-18-2006, 11:50 PM You know what REALLY sucks?! I get to look through cases and cases and cases of these *******s everyday. 9/10 the disposition reads PBJ, Nolle Pros, or Stet Docket
NOW THAT PISSES ME OFF!!!!

jwreck 11-24-2006, 02:18 PM so, its thanksgiving day, you'd think it'd be a nice quiet day, well, no. a family of hispanics comes home from somewhere, they all pile out of the pickup truck. they all go inside their trailer except the 2 year old, who get's his wagon and starts playing outside, unnoticed by anyone. then the uncle comes out to leave, abcks up over the wagon, gets out, looks and see the wagon under his truck, then gets back in and continues backing up. that's when the neighbor started yelling at him that the kid was under the truck. we show up, they hand my partner the kid, we throw him in the back and start doing our thing, the whole time i'm asking "where's mom?" (side note, of course no one there speaks a word of english) finally mom shows up at the side door of my ambulance, as my partner is getting in the front and we're getting ready to leave...so i wave at her to get into the ambulance and talk to the kid to calm him down. i look down at the kid, then look back up and see her walking away waving at us over her shoulder:eek2: so i holler at my partner "where the **** is she going?" he says i don't think that's mom, so i say fine, let's just go, the kids head is a little battered and now he's not crying anymore (bad sign). so we take off to the hospital. so we get to the hospital, and our supervisor is there to yell at us because we left without mom. he was upset until we explained the details...turns out, it was mom at the door of the box, but she thought it was more important to go change clothes to go to the hospital, and wanted us to wait on her. the whole time we were at the hospital, she never went into the room with him, and many times the staff would come ask me "where's the mom?", so even after she got to the hospital (another ambulance that had been sent to the scene brought her to the hospital) she was still mia. wtf is wrong with people? you're 2 year old has been run over by a truck, and you're worried about what ****ing clothes you have on!! turned out the kid had a fractured skull and contusion on his brain, and that was just what they found right away...but at least she looked nice when she showed up at the hospital repeating "no english".
fat mike 11-24-2006, 05:16 PM Good grief you really get to see the best in people-no wonder in these threads you sound a little pissed off...
