They all are, you just have to know how to diversify and manage risk.

I'm lazy, so I just throw money into an ISA every month rather than do my investment work myself. The money's invested in UK bonds, and it's been returning about 6% per year. I'm satisfied.

If you are able to get CNNfn (financial), there is a lot of chatter about good investment ideas on this show.

Just my rambling opinion...

With the continuing (farily) low mortgage rates, real estate (house, etc) are over priced, because everybody is in the market. Wait until the market collapses - sooner or later people will not be able to keep spending more then they make. After that, the demand for housing will go down and so will the price. Once people start realizing they are paying more on a mortgage then they could sell the house for, they will simply walk away. The banks will start foreclosing and selling at deeply discounted prices to recoup their losses.

Given the inflation that goes hand in hand with our fiat money, cash is never good, beyond having a few months worht of living expenses saved, for an emergency.

Stocks - it depends, there are probably some goo deals out there, but it will take a lot of work to find them.

One sector you didn't mention - commodities - particualrly gold., other precious metals and oil. I think gold (physcially in hand) is a good investment, but to be honest have not bought any yet, because we are still finishing paying off our debt and developing some savings.

Real estate. Low mortgage rates and tax benefits.

I've invested money in my house and it's value has doubled since my parents bought it. I have cashed in a few mutual funds over the years and invested in some stocks a while ago, but I don't think I'm doing that anymore. They didn't make me any real money. So far the best return I've gotten is from our house which is why I think property is a great investment.

Contrary to Contra's belief, the stock market is **** right now. Two weeks ago it was up, but everything is losing money now. Don't believe me? Go to the NYSE website and research it.

Exxon Mobile Corporation (XOM on the ticker) is about the only thing that is making money, and even it's fluctuating on a daily basis.
